President Donald Trump released a new statement on former Manhattan D.A attorney Mark Pomerantz, who reportedly preparing to indict him on dubious charges relating to Stormy Daniel’s “hush payments” during the 2016 presidential election.
Trump torched Mark Pomerantz in a statement on Truth Social:
“The lead prosecutor for the corrupt Manhattan D.A.’s office worked as a lawyer for crooked Hillary Clinton and her law firm, left this Democrat firm with others to volunteer to ‘get Donald Trump’ at the D.A.’s office, for free,” Trump wrote.
“He quit in a huff when D.A. Bragg said there was no case here. He then unethically & illegally wrote & published a book about the case while it was going on. This is unheard of ‘stuff.’ The case is now completely compromised & reports are that Mark Pomerantz is in trouble,’ Trump added.
Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina told MSNBC how Pomerantz actively went after Trump, compromising the case against him.
According to Tacopina, when Pomerantz became a DA prosecutor against Trump not long after quitting his law firm, he admitted in his book that he was not paid for his services, and would have paid to prosecute Trump.
“Prosecutors are supposed to be blind when it comes to dishing out justice….then he [Mr. Pomerantz] goes in there looking for a crime to fit the person- it is not supposed to be that way in our system…then he signs a document and in that document, it states ‘if you reveal grand jury information’ – which is any information according to this document-‘that you get during this investigation…to a third party it is a felony under New York State law,” Pomerantz said.
Trump’s lawyer also noted that Pomerantz’s book violated this agreement and could face criminal charges and revoke his license.
He also points out that Pomerantz’s book refers to the Stormy Daniels case as a “zombie case” that no prosecutor would touch.
After Melber later showed Trump’s payments to Cohen, touting it as evidence of Trump paying Stormy Daniels, Tacopina noted that all the payments showed what Trump gave money to Cohen and that Stormy Daniels was not mentioned in them, The DC Enquirer reports.
Mr. Tacopina said, “he was invoiced by Mr. Cohen for legal fees.”
However, Bragg is trying to prosecute Trump with an illegal election contribution via a $130,000 payment paid to Stormy Daniels based on Cohen’s claims.
In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to federal charges, including five counts of tax invasion, one count of making an excessive campaign contribution at the request of a candidate, and one count of willfully causing an unlawful corporate contribution.
To top it all, “corrupt” Cohen was also charged with lying to Congress.
Other cases of campaign finance violations have been handled via fines, not an indictment.
Obama’s 2008 campaign was fined $375,000 for campaign reporting violations – one of the biggest fines in presidential campaign history.
Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign settled an FEC investigation into whether she violated campaign finance laws by paying a $113,000 Steele dossier fine.
