Meta President for Global Affairs Nick Clegg admitted Facebook censored the Hunter Biden laptop story in case fact-checkers could “look at the story if they wanted to. They didn’t.”
During a broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” on Wednesday, Host Bret Baier asked, “[A]s far as stories, the Hunter Biden laptop story, the story of the COVID origins, did Facebook manipulate those or censor those as they were coming out?”
Clegg responded, “So, on the Hunter Biden story, other platforms, I think it was Twitter, sort of just deleted the story altogether.”
“We didn’t. You could still find the story. Millions of people did,” Clegg added.
“But for seven days the prominence of the story was less for those seven days,” he said.
“It’s just part of the way our systems work to allow our fact-checkers, we have a network of independent fact-checkers to look at the story if they wanted to. They didn’t,” Clegg admitted.
“And after seven days, that — what’s called in the jargon — that temporary demotion was taken off. So, we didn’t remove it,” he said.
“People could find it. Many people saw it on Facebook. We were simply following the rules by which our systems currently operate.”
But Clegg’s claims that Facebook censored the Hunter Biden story because of “fact checkers” goes against what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told podcast host Joe Rogen last August.
As The Daily Fetched reported, Zuckerberg told Rogen that the FBI approached Facebook about “Russian propaganda” shortly before the NY Post broke the explosive Hunter Biden laptop story.
“Basically, the background here is the FBI, I think, basically came to us- some folks on our team and was like, ‘Hey, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert. We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election,” Zuckerberg told Rogan.
“We have it on notice that, basically, there’s about to be some kind of dump of that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant,” the META CEO added.
After months of censorship on social media platforms and ridicule from the establishment media, the story turned out to be true.
Zuckerberg seemed to express regret about suppressing the story.
“Yeah, yeah. I mean, it sucks,” Zuckerberg said, before defending the platform for allowing others to share the NY Post story, unlike Twitter.
