As many as 20 coronavirus species are likely to cause a new outbreak, according to a study from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), a stark warning to prepare for another COVID-19 pandemic.
In a study in Emerging Microbes & Infections in July, the WIV has been making headlines, as many social media users have begun coming to their own conclusions online.
The Wuhan scientists documented their study of 40 coronavirus species, identifying 20 as “high risk … including 6 of which jumped to human, 3 with evidence of spillover but not to human and 11 without evidence of spillover yet.”
“It is almost certain that there will be future disease emergence, and it is highly likely a CoV [coronavirus] disease again,” the study said.
“Thus, the early preparation for the animal CoVs with risk of spillover is important for future disease preparedness, regarding the likely animal origin of SARS, MERS, and COVID-19.”
SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is a disease that caused a deadly outbreak in China over 20 years ago.
MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) is a coronavirus disease first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012.
The study’s auhtors included Shi Zhengli, a Chinese coronavirus expert jknown as “batwoman” for her academic studies on the coronavirus.
She became a figure of international focus during the coronavirus pandemic.
Shi stopped public appearances in early 2020 but reemerged to defend the Chinese government from claims that the coronavirus came from a lab in Wuhan.
The immediate surge in interest in the article resulted in part of the Chinese Communist Party’s abrupt disinterest in the pandemic, which began after it ceased most civil rights abuses against civilians with lockdowns and quarantine camps.
The “zero-Covid” policy ignited nationwide protests across China in 2022.
An anonymous scientist told the South China Morning Post that the Chinese government is “downplaying” the Wuhan COVID-19 infection, fuelling speculation that another pandemic is about to break.
“Sometimes in private conversations, when talking with other public health scholars, we have noticed that intentionally or unintentionally, Chinese authorities are downplaying COVID-19, and some cities have stopped releasing infection data,” the scientist said, warning the Wuhan study could be a signal of another pandemic.
He added that the study published in July was important because it works as a “textbook” of multiple coronavirus species that can be referenced in further research.
“This raises questions about the credibility of WIV senior researcher Shi Zhengli’s public claim that there was ‘zero infection’ among the WIV’s staff and students of SARS-CoV-2 or SARS-related viruses,” the State Department contended.
Earlier this year, the office of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) published a 300-page report concluding that “serious biocontainment failure or accident” at the WIV was the origin of the pandemic,
The House Oversight Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic concluded there was “a coordinated effort between public health officials in the United States government and expert scientists to craft a narrative that would advance the zoonotic origin of COVID-19 in order to protect the Chinese government from any potential criticism and repercussions.”
In August, reports emerged that the Biden administration was preparing to enforce full COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions, according to TSA and border patrol whistleblowers.
A “high level” TSA official told Infowars that new memorandums and policies to start restricting, including mask wearing.
Furthermore, the TSA whistleblower claimed that mask-wearing would be mandated for pilots, passengers, crew, and all airport patrons, and COVID-19 lockdowns would also be implemented in September.
Earlier this month, the Biden administration relaunched a website allowing people to order free COVID-19 tests.
The Biden Department of Health and Human Services announced it will invest $600 million in a dozen domestic manufacturers to increase the production of COVID-19 tests.
“Manufacturing COVID-19 tests in the United States strengthens our preparedness for the upcoming fall and winter seasons, reduces our reliance on other countries, and provides good jobs to hardworking Americans,” Dawn O’Connell, the assistant HHS secretary for preparedness and response, said Wednesday.
HHS said the test can detect circulating new variants.
Earlier in September, two California high schools canceled football games because of COVID-19 cases among students, according to reports.
Sparto High School near Sacramento said it canceled a game after six players tested positive for COVID-19.
