Twitter/X owner Elon Musk said the sexual assault allegations against comedian Russell Brand are an “odd coincidence,” given that he has been rattling cages by questioning the establishment.
Musk described the attempts to unperson Russell Brand as “witch burning” and questioned, “Why now?”
It’s a good question.
During a conversation on X Spaces Thursday, the Tesla CEO discussed Brand being demonetized on YouTube following the sexual assault allegations.
“There needs to be, obviously, a conviction here,” Musk said.
“It can’t be guilty until proven innocent,” Musk noted.
“We’re just sort of in the witch burning phase here; just being declared a witch is enough to make you a witch and be burnt,” Musk added.
“Anyone could be accused at any time of false charges, and we can’t be destroying their lives on the potential of false accusations,” Musk continued.
Musk also said it was interesting that the allegations came against Russell Brand after he was “rattling the cage” of the “powers that be.”
“Seems like an odd coincidence that it’s happening when Russell is really gaining traction, questioning a lot of the conventional wisdom,” Musk noted.
Musk also said that besides the allegations, the media is now trying to paint Russell Brand as a “conspiracy theorist” to discredit him.
“I think we’re running out of conspiracy theories that didn’t turn out to be true,” Musk asserted.

According to a joint investigation by newspapers The Sunday Times, The Times, and TV show Dispatches, women alleged Brand sexually assaulted them between 2006 and 2013
Brand has denied the allegations, saying in a video posted on Friday on X, formerly Twitter, that his relationships have been “always consensual.
“These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies, and as I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous,” he said.
Musk’s remarks came a week after Major advertisers, including Burger King, Asos, and HelloFresh, have pulled their advertising budgets from Rumble following the allegations against Brand.
Last week, the UK parliament demanded why video-sharing platform have not demonetized the comedian’s channel.

British Member of Parliament, Dame Caroline Dinenage, wrote to Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski asking whether he would suspend monetization of Brand’s account, noting that Brand had posted his pre-emptive message regarding the allegations.

Rumble published their reply on Twitter/X, reminding Dame Dinenage that they are not in the United Kingdom and do things a little differently in the United States.

The CEO of Google-owned YouTube, Neal Mohan, also defended the platform’s recent decision to demonetize Brand, claiming they’re “not playing favorites” regardless of who the person is.
The London’s Metropolitan Police Service said it was investigating a report of an alleged sexual assault against Brand.
“We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a sexual offense, no matter how long ago it was, to contact us,” the department said.
