Two animated Disney movies which both embraced woke LGBTQ ideology became the biggest box office flops of 2022, losing the company of a quarter of a billion dollars.
“Strange World,” which featured Disney’s first out gay teen hero, lost Disney almost $200 million, receiving the lowest audience score in Dsiney’s history of animated films with a “B” rating.
The film had a $317.4 million budget but earned a measly $73.6 million at the box office, according to Deadline.
Meanwhile, the Disney film “Lightyear,” which featured a gay kissing scene, became another major flop losing the company $106 million at the box office, earning the lowest CinemaScore of any “Toy Story” movie.
The two common themes between these Disney movies are their woke LGBTQ ideology, which judging by the reception and colossal financial losses, is not the type of films parents want their children to watch.
Despite “Strange World” having a good storyline and cast, the film fell flat after Disney featured the first openly gay main character.
Meanwhile, “Lightyear” was set for a box office hit, given it was the latest addition to the hugley popular “Toy Story” franchise. But after Disney decided to contaminate the film with its woke agenda, it also bombed.
The movie steered away from the typically innocent “Toy Story” tone, instead, featuring a same-sex kiss.
Pixar CCO Pete Docter responded to “Lightyear” becoming an instant flop, telling The Wrap: “We’ve done a lot of soul-searching about that because we all love the movie. We love the characters and the premise. I think probably what we’ve ended on in terms of what went wrong is that we asked too much of the audience. When they hear Buzz, they’re like, ‘Great, where’s Mr. Potato Head and Woody and Rex?’ And then we drop them into this science fiction film that they’re like, ‘What?'” Docter said.
Meanwhile, executives defended “Strange World,” blaming COVID-19, foreign countries banning the movie, and poor marketing for its flop.
Film critic Christian Toto stated the obvious ‘turd in the punch bowl’ which caused the movies to bomb.
“Hollywood doesn’t fully grasp the ‘go woke, go broke’ mantra, but some executives are getting the message. We’ve seen woke regrets at Netflix and Warner Bros .… Disney may soon realize that woke isn’t a money-making position. We have decades of wonderful, woke-free content for parents to consider,” Toto said.
To put things in more perspective, the top-grossing movie in 2022 was “Top Gun: Maverick.” The top two animated children’s films were “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”
What were the common themes behind those movies?
They all steered well clear of woke ideology.
