A Minnesota father killed a 77-year-old convicted child sex offender with a moose antler and shovel after claimed he was stalking his young daughter.
Levi Axtell admitted killing Lawrence Scully, who was previously jailed for sexually abusing a six-year-old girl in 1979.
Axtell, 27, had walked into the sheriff’s office covered in blood to admit he had killed Scully, according to a report from The Daily Mail.
The father had filed a protection order against the elderly sex offender but was late dropped.
According to court records, Scully was committed to a mental institution in 2020 and prescribed anti-psychotic drugs before release.
The father repeatedly hit the child sex offender with a shovel before eventually ‘finishing him off with a giant moose antler, according to a criminal complaint filed on Friday.
Axtell entered Scully’s home at around 4.45 pm before striking him 15-20 times with a shovel.
“Defendant said he had known (Scully) for a long time and believed him to have sexually offended against children in the past,” it states.
“Defendant said he had observed (Scully) parked in his vehicle at locations where children were present and believed he would re-offend,” it added.
A Cook County sheriff’s deputy found Scully with ‘major head trauma and surrounded by blood’ at his home.
Scully was jailed for five years for molesting a six-year-old girl when he was 33 after entering a guilty plea.
However, he was released on December 31, 1981, when he petitioned for post-conviction relief.
Scully filed a candidate for mayor of Grand Marais, Minnesota in 2014, but by 2018 he was facing more allegations of sexual misconduct with minors.
That year Axtell alleged Skully was stalking his child and sought a protction order.
“They do not know each other,” he wrote in the petition.
“The respondent waits for victim to go on walks from daycare and tries to talk to her. … He has been there many times stalking children in his van,” he added.
“I have seen him parked right next to the school. … He is a convicted pedophile and him stalking and attempting to groom my daughter is completely inappropriate and needs to stop,” he said.
Although the request was temporarily granted, a permanent order was denied.
Axtell’s sister said the family was planning to help with the case by setting up an online fundraiser to help with the case, which also attracted support from the local community.
“I am overwhelmed by the amount of support I am seeing online right now in light of Wednesday’s tragedy,” Katrina Axtell wrote on Facebook.
“When a community member is in crisis, we often feel at a loss for how to support them. When words don’t feel like enough, it can be easy to err on the side of silence out of a desire to respect the privacy of the family involved.”
“I would like to welcome you to share your words in support of Levi and our family.”
She added: “My hope is that both families involved and the Cook County community as a whole can come together to support one another, hear one another, and heal together.”
EPIDEMIC: At Least 13 Mayors Arrested on Child Sex Crimes since 2021
This guys needs a metal and both the shovel and the Moose antler should be bronzed and hung at the entrance of town as permanent reminder of what happens to vile humans when they are a threat to children.
Bravo for Levi Axtell. A fantastic reason that we need fathers in our children’s lives.
And another sexual pervert piece of slime eliminated from society. Good for Axtell. P.S. Senile Joe Biden is a sexual pervert.
Look up every body while I fondle this little girl’s breast.
