Stephen King has a new novel titled “Holly,” which obsesses over President Donald Trump, blaming him and Conservatives for the COVID pandemic, racism, and homophobia.
The book, released earlier this month, is littered with elements of “Trump derangement syndrome,” proving the leftist author still has the former president living in his head rent-free.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, King said, “I think that a lot of people are not going to like it. I think that a lot of people — particularly people on the other side of the COVID issue and the Trump issue — are going to give it one-star reviews on Amazon.”
Stephen King jumping to such a conclusion appears to show his novel was intended to taunt conservatives and those suspicious of the government’s COVID-19 measures.
“But all I can say to those people is, ‘Knock yourself out,'” he told Rolling Stone.
The main character in the King’s novel, Holly, has to deal with not only the COVID-19 pandemic but with her “COVID-denying” mother’s recent death.
The book’s message also appears to attack those who questioned COVID restrictions.
Set in 2021, the novel takes on COVID but racism, homophobia, the Jan. 6 Capitol incursion, and Trump’s “effect on the country’s zeitgeist and political discourse,” NPR reports.
“King has never been shy about his politics, but ‘Holly’ is one of his most political novels to date, and it’ll surely anger all the right people,” NPR notes.
The New York Times reviewer Flynn Berry sums up the book nicely:
“From vaccinations to the Capitol riot, ‘Holly’ charges into the thorniest contemporary debates with gleeful recklessness.”
The writer could have added that King should now be described as a left-wing activist, not a novelist.
While King has written some great books in the past, it seems his political obsession with the Right has destroyed any creativity he had left.
As multiple reviews on the book note, “Holly” is so plagued with political bias that it’s hard to see how anyone could mistake it for good literature.
According to Rolling Stone, when the reader first encounters Holly, she is attending her COVID-denying mother’s funeral via Zoom, which King highlights the COVID-denying context, a signal that the book will be heavily biased.
Also, it doesn’t help King that his anti-Trump bias is already well-documented,
King went on record in 2022, saying, “Trump was a horrible president and is a horrible person,” according to Yahoo Entertainment.
“I think [Trump] actually engaged in criminal behavior and, certainly, I felt that he was a sociopath who tried to overturn the American democracy not out of any political wish of his own but because he could not admit that he had lost,” King told the U.K.’s Sunday Times.
“Holly” is more of a progressive rant than a novel, which could kill off any credibility King had left.
