Former White House COVID adviser Dr Scott Atlas responded to the escalating COVID-19 hysteria and the apparent return of masks and restrictions, calling it a “public health fiasco.”
Atlas, who was the White House adviser on the Coronavirus Task Force under President Donald Trump, told The Epoch Times’ Joshua Philipp that the COVID response has been “the biggest public health fiasco in modern history, and it’s continuing.”
Responding to reports of new mask mandates, Atlas said the hype is “shocking, but I don’t think we should be shocked anymore at what’s happening because we’ve seen this for three years now.”
He said the emergence of new variants is to be expected, as mutations will leave new variants less and less lethal.
“There is no significant, real, dangerous pandemic going on,” he said. “That’s just false.”
Atlas also said that masks “don’t work, period. That’s proven.”
“There is no debate about that for anyone who cares about scientific evidence and data,” he said.
“To say that masks work is like saying the earth is flat,” the former White House COVID advisor said.
Atlas noted that research has consistently found that “there is no evidence that masks reduce the infection, spread, or protect the wearer,” and even “N-95 masks are no different from surgical masks in that respect.”
The former White House COVID advisor also claimed “lockdowns don’t work” and were “extraordinarily harmful,
Atlas also expressed concern that Americans are not operating based upon objective reality and condemned the “obsession about testing for a virus that is endemic.”
“We need people that are ethical and have courage to step up and speak out because the people in power are either incompetent or they’re lying,” Atlas said.
While responding to criticisms of Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Atlas said that the procedure for managing a pandemic “was not learned” over the last three years but had been “known” for some “15 years before this pandemic.”
“During 2020, somehow the country lost its rational leadership, and data was denied,” he said.
He then argued that citizens must sift through the available information and make well-reasoned decisions.
“We need to have enough people understand and think for themselves,” he said. “Critical thinking is necessary on an individual basis here.”
Atlas’s remarks come just a week after third-grade students at an elementary School in Montgomery County, Maryland, were told to begin masking up ahead of reports of a new COVID-19 wave.
Conservative radio talk show host Clay Travis posted a letter on X, formerly Twitter, which parents received from Rosemary Hills Elementary School, saying “3 or more” students had recently tested positive for COVID-19, and students need to begin masking up.
The letter from the school’s principal, Rebecca Irwin Kennedy, said the masks also need to be N95s despite evidence suggesting such masks are ineffective at stopping the virus.

FALSE…masks DO NOT work, but the Earth may well be flat.
