President Donald Trump said on Monday that automatic voter registration in Pennsylvania will be a “disaster for the Election of Republicans.”
The state became the 24th state to roll out the practice before the 2024 election.
“Pennsylvania is at it again!” Trump said on Truth Social.
The former president warned that automatic voter registration would be a disaster, not just for him but for Republicans across the board.
He continued:
“The Radical Left Governor, Josh Shapiro, has just announced a switch to Automatic Voter Registration, a disaster for the Election of Republicans, including your favorite President, ME!”
“This is a totally Unconstitutional Act, and must be met harshly by Republican Leadership in Washington and Pennsylvania,” Trump added,
Trump took aim at the Republican National Committee (RNC) leadership, suggesting it spend more time focusing on similar issues rather than “meaningless Debates where I am up by more than 50 points.”
“Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, and others, are far more important than ‘Aida,’ Sloppy Chris, Lyin’ Mike Pence, Nikki’ Birdbrain’ Haley, Ron (‘Dead Campaign’) DeSanctimonious, and the others,” Trump continued.
He continued:
“Start suing now, & get the right lawyers this time! The Pennsylvania Republican Party must likewise not let this happen.”
“It will be a disaster for our Nation, which is being destroyed by these Lunatics, Marxists, & Fascists, whose only real ability is to CHEAT on Elections.”
“MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump concluded.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) announced ina. Social media posts that automatic voter registration would go into effect.
Eligible voters in the state will now be automatically opted in when renewing or receiving new ID cards and driver’s licenses, according to The Hill.
Voters previously needed to opt into the process to register to vote personally.
As CBS News noted, Under the new format, prompts on the computer screens in driver’s license centers will take the user to a template to register to vote.
That leaves it up to them to choose not to register. Previously, prompts on the computer screen first asked the user whether they wanted to register to vote.
Twenty-three other states and Washington, D.C., already have varying models of what is called “automatic voter registration,” according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
The Shapiro administration said it does not need legislation or regulation to make the change at driver’s license centers.
“By expanding voter registration at our DMVs, we’ll save taxpayers time and money, reduce the number of costly paper registrations, and streamline voter registration for Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro said.
When running for Governor, I made a commitment to bring automatic voter registration to Pennsylvania — the birthplace of our democracy.

Shapiro celebrated the promise of automatic voter registration as a “reality” in the battleground state.
Automatic voter registration is not new, with 23 other states already using it.
Shapiro’s office noted that Democratic-led and Republican-led states, including West Virginia, Georgia, and Delaware, have used the practice.
Meanwhile, recent surveys show Trump and President Joe Biden statistically tied in the state, with Democrat Sen. Bob Casey trailing a generic Republican on the ballot.
