Democrats are reportedly reaching out to potential replacements for Joe Biden and telling them the president will not be running for re-election.
According to a report from CNN, “top Democrats and donors” have reached out to “possible replacements” for Biden and are now scrambling to get fresh faces in the 2024 race as Biden’s mental capacity deteriorates.
Biden is struggling against Republican Party presidential candidate President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The Democrats are telling potential replacements that Biden will not be running president, despite launching his campaign.
However, the Biden team claimed he was still running and taking campaign preparations seriously.
One Democrat who appears to be raising their national profile, signaling a 2024 run, is California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Newsom has spent millions left over from his 2022 gubernatorial campaign to boost fellow Democrats for 2024 and plans to visit red states to help boost turnout for Democrats.
Numerous senior Democrat advisers told CNN they are concerned about the slow pace of Biden’s campaign.
As The Daily Fetched reported earlier this week, Obama held a secret meeting in Washington, D.C., to rally Democratic congressional support to replace Biden atop the party’s 2024 ticket.
Obama recently hosted several meetings with younger House Democrats which took place over cheese and crackers in Obama’s Washington office,” Politico’s Jonathan Martin reported.
While it is unclear what was discussed, the low-profile meeting raises questions about why Obama would be getting involved at this point, especially as Joe Biden appears to be becoming a liability.
The meeting featured younger Democratic congressional leaders and former administration staffers at Obama’s D.C. office, RadarOnline.com noted.
“Obama recognizes the gravity of the situation with Joe’s disappointing poll numbers,” said a Beltway insider.
“He had hoped that the president would have rallied and come into his own at this point, but that clearly hasn’t happened.
“With 2024 growing closer and closer, he had to act since he apparently fears Joe is getting too old and frail to win,” the insider noted further.
