California congressman Eric Swalwell’s attempt to defend ‘corrupt’ Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg by attacking Rep. Jim Jordan backfired so severely that he deleted his tweet.
Swalwell’s tweet published Monday, which now “doesn’t exist,” attacked Jordan over his plan to take the Judiciary Committee to New York City next week.
The hearing is meant to highlight how Bragg has prioritized prosecuting former President Donald Trump while ignoring crime n his own city.
However, Swalwell made the stupid mistake of attempting to challenge Jordan by comparing crime in Manhattan to crime in Columbus, Ohio.
“Why aren’t we having this hearing in Columbus, Ohio (near Jim Jordan’s district) — they have a murder rate nearly 3x higher than Manhattan?” Swalwell wrote in the now-nonexistent tweet.
The problem with Swalwell’s comparison is he was trying to blame Jordan for the problems of an Ohio city. Not only is that not Jordan’s congressional district, but it’s also Democrat-run.
The majority of Columbus is in Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District, where the city’s mayor is Andrew Ginther, a Democrat.
Ginther’s predecessor, Michael Coleman, was also a Democrat – serving four terms beginning in 2000.
So despite the area having a Democratic congresswoman and the city of Columbus having a Democratic mayor since 2000, Swalwell thought it would be a good idea to use that as an example of Republican hypocrisy.

Swalwell’s attempt to defend Bragg and his politicized prosecution of Trump in Manhattan, where crime is rife, serves as a warning for other Democrats.
The media will likely ignore Swalwell’s blunder, so he can continue spouting more falsehoods and sweeping it under the carpet when he gets called out.
