Russia announced on Friday it had placed its Sarmat ICBMs, a long-range Nuke capable of hitting any target on earth, on “combat duty,” according to the head of the country’s space agency Roscosmos,.Yuri Borisov.
The nuclear-capable Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system, nicknamed “Satan II,” was touted by President Putin as capable of hitting “any target on Earth.”
The Sarmat, a “superheavy” class of missiles, has a short initial boost phase, allowing it to bypass all conventional anti-missile defense systems better.
The Sarmat’s super long range allows it to reach targets thousands of missiles away in the United States or Europe.
At over 200 tons, the missile is the heaviest missile Russia possesses.
The weight allows to carry around 15 warheads, up to 750kt.
(For perspective, The bomb the US dropped on Hiroshima was 15kt.)
This would be enough to destroy a country the size of France.
The missile can also carry hypersonic missiles, which renders missile defense systems defenseless.
In development since 2009 and has been in the testing phase for several years.
But now, the Sarmat Nuke, which is now on “combat duty” has been touted by Russia as reaching speeds of nearly 16,000 mph.
“The new complex has the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is capable of overcoming all modern means of anti-missile defense,” Putin said last year.
“It has no analogs in the world and won’t have for a long time to come.”
“This truly unique weapon will strengthen the combat potential of our armed forces, reliably ensure Russia’s security from external threats, and provide food for thought for those who, in the heat of frenzied aggressive rhetoric, try to threaten our country,” Putin added at the time.
Friday’s announcement has spooked Western leaders as the media rhetoric on the Ukraine war increases, and notably since Moscow positioned tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory.
Earlier this week, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson warned, “There will be a hot war between the United States and Russia within the next year.”
“They will do anything to win,” Tucker says in the video.
“They are not going to do COVID again; they’ve already been exposed, and that won’t work.”
“So what what are they going to do? They’re going to go to war with Russia; that’s what they are going to do,” Tucker continued.
“There will be a hot war between the United States and Russia within the next year, Tucker warned.
