Netflix’s new apocalypse film “Leave the World Behind,” produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, follows the story of a fallout following a major cyber attack, warning that white people should not be trusted in the event of such a disaster.
The film stars Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon.
The plot follows a family vacationing in a rented house on Long Island when the home’s owner, G.H. Scott, and his daughter, Ruth, arrive at their residence following a massive cyber attack in the United States.
In one scene, GH and his daughter Ruth are seen together about to go to sleep when his daughter says:
“If the world falls apart, trust should not be doled out easily to anyone, especially white people.”

The Independent reported:
“The lengthy post-apocalyptic thriller, from Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail, was released on the streaming service on Friday (8 December) and has since shot to the top of its most-watched charts.
Adapted from the 2020 novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam and produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, Leave the World Behind follows a society that unravels after the technological infrastructure begins to collapse.”
The film’s plot follows an electricity outage in the US.
According to FlixPatrol, which tracks viewing on streaming services, the film is Netflix’s No. 1 picture globally and in the top position in 85 countries.
Samba TV estimated that a whopping 2.6 million US households watched Leave the World Behind in its first two days.

Tesla founder Elon Musk took issue to a scene in the film about his cars.
Musk replied to a clip, posted by Netflix, to point out what he believes to be a plot inaccuracy.
In response to the scene, Musk wrote on X/Twitter:
“Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!”
Musk highlighted that the cars could survive an electric-free apocalyptic situation.
