Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene took to X following the ousting of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday, declaring her support for Donald Trump as Speaker of the House.
Rep Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was victorious in his effort to oust McCarthy after a vote was held by a roll call in alphabetical order, and the motion succeeded, 216-210.
The Republican House voted on Rep Tom Cole’s (R-OK) motion to table Gaetz’s move, which was rejected.
Regarding his move to oust McCarthy, Gaetz said:
I take no lecture from those who would grovel and bend knee for the lobbyists and special interests who own our leadership, hollow out this town, and borrow against the future of our future generations.#MotionToVacate pic.twitter.com/PV52V5LVO2

Cole said McCarthy’s ousting would “plunge us into chaos.”
Meanwhile, Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) said that McCarthy’s leadership has been “rock solid” and that he believed he had kept his word.

Rep Thomas Massie (R-KY) called the move to oust McCarthy “terrible,” calling for a “referendum” on regular order, and if it fails, then “no one will try it again.”
Massie argued that McCarthy made the majority more “fair and even.

Marjorie Taylor Greene took to X to declare her support for Trump as Speaker of the House:
“The only candidate for Speaker I am currently supporting is President Donald J. Trump.
He will end the war in Ukraine.
He will secure the border.
He will end the politically weaponized government.
He will make America energy independent again.
He will pass my bill to stop transgender surgeries on kids and keep men out of women’s sports.
He will support our military and police.
And so much more!
He has a proven 4-year record as President of the United States of America.
He received a record number of Republican votes of any Republican Presidential candidate!
We can make him Speaker and then elect him President!
He will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

McCarthy announced he would not seek to regain the Speaker’s gavel after losing a motion to vacate the chair.
The former Speaker took questions after announcing his intentions to step down.
“I believe I can continue to fight, maybe in a different manner,” McCarthy told a packed Capitol room.
“I will not run for Speaker again, I’ll have the conference pick somebody else.”
McCarthy expressed no regrets over his choices in the days leading to Gaetz filing the motion to vacate.
“Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but it is necessary,” he said, smiling.
“I don’t regret standing up for choosing governing over grievance.”
