Canada’s Conservative Party leader ruthlessly fact-checked a liberal journalist after she accused him of acting irresponsibly by citing media reports about terrorism on the recent explosion at the Niagara Falls border checkpoint.
Pierre Poilievre, PC MP, fact-checked the leftist reporter, who asked if he believed it was “responsible” to call the explosion an act of terrorism “when no U.S. or Canadian officials or authorities said that was the case.”
“Actually you’re wrong. Are you with CP?” Poilievre asked the journalist before noting how the mainstream outlet had already been forced to issue three corrections to their reports.
“I think that might be unprecedented,” Poilievre continued.
“I’m thinking about actually checking with the Guinness Book of World Records to see if there’s ever been a news agency that’s had to issue three corrections for patent falsehoods that they admit they made in a single article,” he added.
Poilievre then noted how the premise of the liberal reporter’s question was false.
“Where you are wrong is that CTV reported that the government of Canada was presuming that the incident was terrorists,” he said.
“And that’s what I said in my remarks. You’re right,” he added.

“But it’s citing media reporters and not…,” the reporter quipped, visibly agitated.
“You think that’s a responsible thing to go on? Calling something terrorism.”
“No I didn’t, I said there are media reports,” Poilievre fired back.
“That’s the distinction we’re making? Okay,” she replied.
“No, there’s no distinction. I said, and I was right, was that there were media reports or a terror related event,” Poilievre replied.
“By your admission, there were… And that report, according to CTV, came from security officials in the Trudeau government. So do you think CTV was irresponsible?” he asked.
“It’s not for me to comment on,” she responded.
“I just hope you’re not going to print something you’re going to have to apologize for again,” he finished.

While initial media reports about the explosion suggested it was a terrorist attack, security footage showed the car traveling at a high rate of speed, hitting a speed bump before going into the air.
The explosion took the lives of a husband and wife couple inside the vehicle.
