Joy Behar appeared she was totally fine with sex changes for minors, saying, “It’s not like they’re 80% of the population,” before slamming Republicans for passing bills to protect children against such procedures.
During Wednesday’s broadcast of “The View,” Behar made the comments while speaking to Elliot Page, the actor formerly known as Ellen Page, who now identifies as male, about the star’s new memoir titled, “Pageboy.”
Both Joy Behar and Page discussed Republican bills passed across the country to stop minors from getting life-changing irreversible sex changes under the guise of “gender-affirming care.”
Page said we live in a time “that is so especially rife with anti-trans rhetoric, lies, misinformation.”
She got that right, at least.
Behar then asked Page about Republicans continuing to introduce hundreds of anti-trans bills” banning “gender-affirming health care for transgender youth.”
“Why do you think the transgender community is being attacked like this?” Behar asked.
“What is that about? I mean, it’s not like they’re 80% of the population.”

The actor said the bills were probably a “political tool to gain votes.”
“It’s to make people upset,” Page added. “It’s to distract people from, scare people from real issues that are happening in our society that do need to be addressed.”
But Page failed to explain further what those e “real issues” were.
In December 202, Page announced becoming transgender, around six years after coming out as a lesbian.
In 2021, Time magazine interviewed Page about undergoing transgender surgery.
