John Durham is appearing on Capitol Hill to testify in a hearing about his damning report of the political weaponization of the DOJ and FBI.
Durham’s report outlined the abuses of power during the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, which sought to uncover supposed collusion between Donald Trump and Russia to influence the 2016 election.
There was no evidentiary basis for the investigation, but the FBI moved forward anyway, ending in the special counsel, which lasted for years before reaching a dead end.
In his opening statement at the hearing, John Durham explained what was uncovered.

DURHAM: Our findings were sobering. I tell you, after having spent 40 years-plus as a federal prosecutor, they were particularly sobering for me and a number of my colleagues who have spent decades in the FBI themselves, they were sobering.
While I’m encouraged by some of the reforms that have been implemented by the FBI, the problems identified in this report, anybody who actually reads this report, the details of the report, the documented portions of the report, I think will find the problems identified in the report are not susceptible to overnight fixes.
As we said in the report, it can not be addressed solely by enhancing training or additional policy requirements. Rather, what is required is accountability, both in terms of the standards by which our law enforcement personnel hold themselves and in the consequences they face for violations of laws and policies of relevance.
Despite the solid findings of Durham’s report, Rep. Jerry Nadler responded by suggesting the FBI didn’t go far enough in pursuing Donald Trump and others.
Watch
NADLER: The report itself outlines some fairly glaring investigative missteps. The FBI apparently never even looked at a thumb drive with key evidence related to allegations of contact between the Trump campaign and the Russian government via a Russian cellphone, nor says the report did the FBI ever examine questionable computer contact between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank, one of the largest banks in Russia. The report also fails to recommend a single remedial measure that the Justice Department or the FBI might take to address certain process-related concerns.
Nadler responded to Durham’s opening statement by repeating the debunked conspiracy theory about Trump Tower servers communicating with Alfa Bank.
Nadler also failed to tell the truth when he claimed the FBI never investigated the Alfa Bank allegation. The FBI did, and concluded that the explanation was likely innocuous and due to marketing emails being sent from an outside domain not even located in Trump Tower.
Nadler even asserted that Durham’s appearance was due to Donald Trump being indicted by the DOJ, not because he was scheduled weeks before any news of an indictment.
Durham rebuffed Nadler for spreading lies.
