Joe Biden is continuing to beat the drum for an assault weapons ban, declaring his determination to “do it again.”
“I AM DETERMINED TO BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS. I DID IT ONCE BEFORE, AND I’LL DO IT AGAIN,” a Biden post on X, previously known as Twitter, reads.
Previously, the US had an assault weapons ban in place for ten years, but it expired in 2004, now Biden would like to see another ban enacted.
In 2022, the House of Representatives passed the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2022,” but the measure failed to advance through the Senate.
“It is within our power to once again ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, to require safe storage of guns, to end gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability, and to enact universal background checks,” Biden’s post also claims.
The reaction to Biden’s gun-control aspirations was to be expected.
“Always be wary when they push to take your guns. One of the most corrupt Presidents in history wants to disarm you. It’s never gonna happen,” actor Matthew Marsden wrote in response to Biden.
“Fact check: Much of the gun control Joe Biden proposes below would be in violation of the Second and Fourteenth Amendments,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton wrote.
“This is how a dictator talks. ‘Within our power’. Second Amendment says otherwise, Biden intern,” Twitchy’s Sam Janney tweeted.
The text of the Second Amendment states:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
As The Daily Fetched reported last week, Vice President Kamala Harris called for more gun control, telling volunteers of the Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety that more gun control is needed.
Harris told the crowd that “gun violence is the leading cause of death of the children of America,” a false claim while pushing for gun control.
However, according to numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearm-related deaths for children aged 0-17 totaled 2,281 in 2020.
The number of motor vehicle deaths for children the same age was 2,503.
The CDC also showed that accidental suffocation deaths are ten times higher than gun deaths for children.
Harris added, “It’s the number one cause of death, not some disease, although this is a form of a disease.”
