Joe Biden claimed he knows what it is like losing a home as he recalled a small kitchen fire at his home 15 years ago in an apparent attempt to compare it to people who had lost everything due to the Maui fire.
“I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, of what it was like to lose a home,” Biden said.
“Years ago, now 15 years, I was in Washington doing ‘Meet the press’… Lightning struck at home on a little lake outside the home, not a lake, a big pond.”
“It hit the wire and came up underneath our home, into the…air condition ducts,” Biden said.
“To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my 67 Corvette, and my cat,” he added.

This isn’t the first time Biden has recalled this story.
Last year, Biden insulted Floridians who lost their homes in Hurricane Ian by comparing the disaster to a small kitchen fire in his house.
“I know from experience how much — how much anxiety and fear and concern [unintelligible] the people,” Biden said.
“We didn’t lose our whole home, but lightning struck and we lost an awful lot of it about 15 years ago,” Biden added.
However, Biden’s claims are greatly exaggerated because, according to an Associated Press report, it was “a small fire that was contained to the kitchen.”
In November 2021, Biden also tried to claim his house burned down with his wife, Jill Biden, inside before trying to correct himself.
“Without this bridge, as I said earlier, it’s a 10-mile detour just to get to the other side. And I know, having had a house burn down with my wife in it – she got out safely, God willing – that having a significant portion of it burn, I can tell: 10 minutes make a hell of a difference.”
Biden also recalled the story in 2013, claiming a fire “destroyed a significant portion” of his New Hampshire home.
But according to a report from the Associated Press, lightning struck the Bidens’ home and started a “small fire that was contained to the kitchen,” which was under control within 20 minutes.
Joe Biden comparing his kitchen fire to those victims of the Maui fire is an insult.
