Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called for a “backlash” against Republican Representative Matt Gaetz and other “extremists” in the House GOP after Kevin McCarthy’s ouster.
Matt Gaetz spear headed the vote to oust McCarthy earlier this week.
Reps. Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise (R-LA) are now positioned as the leading contenders to take over the speakership.
“They do not represent a majority of even the Republican Party,” Clinton said.
“When you look at the extremists in the House, they certainly don’t represent a majority of the Country… Somebody has to stand up and say, ‘Enough!'”
“At some point, there needs to be a backlash against the control that this small group of extremists have,” Hillary Clinton said pointing Matt Gaetz.
“And I don’t know who will lead that, but let’s hope whoever becomes the new speaker will,” Clinton said.
President Donald Trump recently endorsed Jordan in his bid to become House Speaker.
Trump made the endorsement in a Truth Social post:
“Congressman Jim Jordan has been a STAR long before making his very successful journey to Washington, D.C., representing Ohio’s 4th Congressional District.
Respected by all, he is now Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
As President, I had the honor of presenting Jim with our Country’s highest civilian award, The Presidential Medal of Freedom.
So much is learned from sports, and Jim was a master! While attending Graham High School, he won State Championships all four years, a rarity, and compiled an amazing 156-1 record.
At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jim became a two-time NCAA Division l Wrestling Champion.
He won his 1985-86 NCAA Championship Matches in his weight class. Jim has a masters degree in Education from Ohio State University & a Law Degree from Capital University.
He is STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment. Jim, his wife, Polly, & family are outstanding – He will be a GREAT Speaker of the House, & has my Complete & Total Endorsement!”
On Wednesday, Liz Cheney said if Jim Jordan is elected Speaker, there would be no way Republicans would defend the US Constitution.
“If the Republicans decide that Jim Jordan should be the Speaker of the House,” Cheney said.
“There would no longer be any possible way to argue that a group of elected Republicans could be counted on to defend the Constitution.”

The House voted to remove McCarthy by a 216-210 vote, with eight joining House Democrats to approve Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) motion to vacate.
Meanwhile, there are still calls for Donald Trump to become the next Speaker.
“When the U.S. House of Representatives reconvenes, my first order of business will be to nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives,” Nehls said in a statement.
“President Trump, the greatest President of my lifetime, has a proven record of putting America First and will make the House great again,” he added.
McCarthy announced he would not seek to regain the Speaker’s gavel after losing a motion to vacate the chair.
The former Speaker took questions after announcing his intentions to step down.
“I believe I can continue to fight, maybe in a different manner,” McCarthy told a packed Capitol room.
