Sex changes and hormone therapy will be one of the many things included in the healthcare coverage provided to illegal immigrants in California.
As of the beginning of January, all illegal migrants will qualify for taxpayer-funded Medi-Cal, California’s public health insurance program.
initially, the program was reserved for low-income families, those with disabilities, and people with diseases such as cancer.
Before the new rules were put in place, illegal immigrants were only able to access emergency and pregnancy-related care.
However, the Post Millennial reported that non-surgical procedures that “bring primary and secondary gender characteristics into conformity with the individual’s identified gender, including ancillary services, such as hair removal,” are also covered.
A state memo regarding Medi-Cal stipulated that “gender-affirming care” will now be covered benefit only ” when medically necessary.”
“Requests for gender-affirming care,” it added.
“Should be from specialists experienced in providing culturally competent care to transgender and gender diverse individuals and should use nationally recognized guidelines.”
State Sen. Maria Elena Durazo said that including illegal immigrants in Medi-Cal was a ” historic investment” that speaks to California’s commitment to health care as a human right.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said in a statement at the time:
“In California, we believe everyone deserves access to quality, affordable health care coverage – regardless of income or immigration status.”
“Through this expansion, we’re making sure families and communities across California are healthier, stronger, and able to get the care they need when they need it.”
Earlier this week, Rapper 50 Cent slammed Newsom over the decision to use taxpayer money to fund health care for illegal aliens.
“I don’t understand this; this is going to cost 2.6 billion dollars for taxpayers,” 50 Cent said in a Wednesday Instagram post.
“They don’t even give veterans health insurance.”
