Former mayor of College Park, Maryland, Patrick Wojahn, a Democrat, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday over possession and distribution of explicit child porn material.
Wojahn pleaded guilty to over 100 counts connected to the child abuse material.
The former mayor, who was a regular White House guest and “mentee” of Pete Buttigieg, was arrested in March on child pornography possession and distribution charges, The Daily Fetched reported.
A press release from the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) said Wojahn faced multiple counts of possession of exploitative child material and 16 counts of distribution of exploitative child material.
The department was alerted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in February that a social media account operating within the county was distributing “suspected child pornography.”
Police found the social media account with the screen name “skippy_md” belonged to Wojahn.
Patrick Wojahn reportedly used a virtual private network (VPN) to mask his location when accessing the social media account.
On February 28, a warrant was served on the home of a Democrat mayor, where police seized a hard drive, multiple cell phones, a tablet, and a computer containing child pornography.
“Wojahn is charged with 40 counts of possession of child exploitative material and 16 counts of distribution of child exploitative material,” the press release said at the time.
“He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections,” it continued.
Wojahn resigned from his position on March 2 and was arrested days after.
The former Democrat mayor ultimately pleaded guilty in August to more than 100 counts of possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
The plea deal now concluded calls for Wojahn to serve a 30-year prison sentence, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy’s office said
Wojahn was serving his second term as mayor of College Park, and he served eight years as a city councilman.
As we reported earlier this year, Wojahn was mentored by Pete Buttigieg and branded himself as an LGBTQ role model.
Town Hall reported Pete Buttigieg mentored Wojhan:
The duo met when Wojahn was first elected in 2015 and went to the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting in the nation’s capital, where the Biden official “was assigned to be my buddy.” (Not long afterward, the pair’s respective marital partners, Kolesar and Chasten Buttigieg, were introduced to each other at a White House reception under the Obama administration.)
Wojahn said:
“I actually met Mayor Pete Buttigieg shortly after I was elected mayor in 2015. I went to the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Winter Meeting in D.C. in January and he was assigned to be my buddy.”
Hey, @PeteButtigieg…

It was also reported that Wojahn was also a panelist headlining one of the D.C.-based LGBTQ activist organization Capital Pride Alliance’s “learning and activism” #StillWeLEAD sessions focusing on “key areas impacting our LGBTQ+ community and our responsibility as leaders within our organizations to support and foster an intersectional social justice movement.”
