The Democrat mayor of College Park, Maryland arrested on Thursday for possessing and distributing child porn, was mentored by Pete Buttigieg and branded himself as an LGBTQ role model.
Wojahn, the first openly gay man to take mayoral office in his city, was charged with 40 counts of possession of child sexual exploitative material and 16 felony counts for distribution of child porn.
Town Hall reported Pete Buttigieg mentored Wojhan:
The duo met when Wojahn was first elected in 2015 and went to the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting in the nation’s capital, where the Biden official “was assigned to be my buddy.” (Not long afterward, the pair’s respective marital partners, Kolesar and Chasten Buttigieg, were introduced to each other at a White House reception under the Obama administration.)
Wojahn said, “I actually met Mayor Pete Buttigieg shortly after I was elected mayor in 2015, I went to the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Winter Meeting in D.C. in January and he was assigned to be my buddy.”
Buttigieg continued to mentor Wojahn after the meeting.
Wojhan and Buttigieg faced similar LGBTQ issues. “We talked about balancing competing interests.”
“Some people raised concerns like does this mean we have to open City Hall to anyone who wants to fly a flag?” Wojhan claimed. “Like if the Ku Klux Klan wants to fly a flag,” Wojhan said.
“Once we say we are an LGBT-friendly community, we don’t have to also then say we are not an LGBT-friendly community. That’s not what free speech is about,” Wojhan added.
Not long after, the mentor and mentee reunited to drink beers together at a summertime campaign stop in Maryland during Buttigieg’s failed 2020 presidential run.
It was also reported, Wojahn was also a panelist headlining one of the D.C.-based LGBTQ activist organization Capital Pride Alliance’s “learning and activism” #StillWeLEAD sessions focusing on “key areas impacting our LGBTQ+ community and our responsibility as leaders within our organizations to support and foster an intersectional social justice movement.”
“We want to cultivate the voices of our youth, lift the voices of our most marginalized, and rediscover the voices of our elders. It is crucial to understand where the LGBTQ+ movement began and how our history informs our present,” reads the March 2021 event description. “We will create a space to discuss our current struggles and provide opportunities to build a better future.”
The Former Mayor and Buttigieg mentee is facing a total of 56 charges related to child porn.
Prince George’s County Police Department announced in a press release, “on February 17, 2023, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children notified the PGPD that a social media account operating in the county possessed and distributed suspected child pornography.”
“The image and videos had been uploaded to the social media account in January of 2023. Through various investigative techniques, PGPD investigators discovered the social media account belonged to Wojahn,” the press release added.
