Vice President Kamala Harris said she is confident that the Biden campaign be victorious regardless of who the Republican Party nominates.
Ahead of the Iowa caucuses, ABC News asked Harris about the administration’s concerns regarding the GOP nominee.
“Well, let me just tell you this. No matter who the Republican nominee is, we’re winning,” she said.
“We’re winning,” Harris repeated.
Chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce asked Harris whether she believes former President Donald Trump is a “foregone conclusion” to compete against Joe Biden this year.
“I don’t know, but look, if it is Donald Trump, we beat him before, and we’ll beat him again,” Harris replied.
Republicans celebrated former President Donald Trump’s Iowa massive landslide victory on Monday by ripping liberals, Democrats, and the media for trying to stop Trump from returning to the White House.
“I have said it before, I will say it again — President Trump is our Republican Nominee for 2024 & he will defeat Joe Biden this November to #SaveAmerica!” House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) posted on X.
However, Harris claimed Biden would handily beat Trump in a hypothetical rematch.
Last year, Harris told CBS’ Bill Whitaker:
“Bill, we’re going to win. Let me just tell you that. We’re going to win. And I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. But we will win,” she said.
“You say that with such conviction,” Whitaker responded.
“I have no doubt, but I also have no doubt it’s going to be a lot of work,” Harris said.
“And everyone’s going to have to participate. This is a democracy,” she continued.
On Tuesday, Biden lashed out at Donald Trump and his MAGA base following the former president’s victory in the Iowa caucuses.
In a post on X, Biden wrote:
“Looks like Donald Trump just won Iowa. He’s the clear front-runner on the other side at this point.”
“But here’s the thing: this election was always going to be you and me vs. extreme MAGA Republicans,” he continued.
“It was true yesterday and it’ll be true tomorrow.”
