San Francisco, the city that pushed support for defunding the police following the death of George Floyd, is so desperate for cops it’s now been forced to recruit in Texas.
Mayor London Breed announced in July 2020 that $120 million would be cut from the police departments, leaving the city wide open to soaring crime.
“Reforming our criminal justice system must go hand-in-hand with policy changes and budget investments to make our city more equitable,” she said.
“By redirecting funding from law enforcement agencies back into the African American community, we are putting our words into action, and we are doing it by listening to a community that for too long has been unheard and underserved,” Breed added.
Following the announcement, Breed was forced to reverse course after the city was plagued with property crime.
Subsequently, the police budget was increased.
But it was too little, too late.
Now, the San Francisco police department is reaching out to Texas university campuses: Texas Southern University, Sam Houston State University, Prairie View A&M University, and Texas A&M University.
The city’s purpose is to recruit cops because many have either left the force, been fired due to budget cuts, or cannot cope with the rampant crime in the city.
Due to staffing shortages, overtime has increased dramatically, soaring 54% between 2021 and 2022.
Supervisor Matt Dorsey, a former police communications staffer, said the e departments full-duty police officers have been cut by 335 from 2017.
As of January this year, the city had 1,537 officers, but a police staffing analysis estimated the city needed more than 2,100 officers to work properly.
The San Francisco Deputy Sheriff’s Association slammed Breed for defunding the department, saying it discovered at a labor-management meeting that the city had initiated cuts to the sheriff’s budget.
The association said that when it queried the city as to why, the city said it had no money.
“We want to be part of the solution, but time and time again, the mayor seems to block the sheriff from doing that,” Ken Lomba, president of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriff’s Association, stated.
“And this is another example. She’s cut the funding for those items, and it almost seems like silent defunding, you know? For us, and we’re trying to help,” he added.
The crime is so bad in San Francisco that Breed was recently forced to flee her speech on rampant “crime” in her city as a violent crime took place in the crowd.

As The Daily Fetched reported last year, two-thirds of San Francisco Residents say their city has rapidly declined due to homelessness and crime, while a third say they are planning to escape within three years.
A poll surveyed 1,653 adults from the city, finding that 65 percent said the city was declining, while 37 percent said they plan to live elsewhere in three years.
The city, famed for its Golden Gate Bridge and colorful ‘Painted Ladies’ homes, is being destroyed by Democratic leadership.
Earlier this month, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, who also advocated defunding the police, claimed out-of-control crime in San Francisco is “confined to a certain part of town.”
Pelosi said: “Well, let me just say that these attacks are not unusual from the right. We have The New York Times having a field day about one thing or another in San Francisco, and we wonder about them, too.”
“But nonetheless, the fact is we do have an isolated situation in the downtown San Francisco in the Tenderloin district and the rest,” Pelosi added.
“We’ll come through this very well, but it’s confined to a certain part of town,” Pelosi continued.
“I wish people would recognize that because our city is beautiful clean, and we’d love for them to visit.”
