An unhinged individual torched a trailer full of Bibles in front of the church in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, on Easter Sunday.
Police responded to a trailer blaze at Old Lebanon Dirt Road and Chandler Road around 6 a.m. Easter Sunday
The Juliet Fire Department crews eventually extinguished the fire. However, all of the Bibles had been burnt to a crisp.
The trailer of Bibles was left in the middle of the intersection near Global Vision Bible Church before being set ablaze.
Police did not reveal the culprit’s race or gender.
Sheriff Robert Bryan said investigators are reviewing the security footage.
The church’s pastor, Greg Locke, said in a statement that the church’s security cameras were able to capture a man setting the trailer of bibles on fire.
“There was a lady that had driven through the night to get to our church, and she was in the parking lot and was able to get the police officers here quickly, but it was quite the scene to wake up to on my first morning back from Israel,” Pastor Locke wrote.
Meanwhile, many took to social media to support the church, which proceeded with its Easter services.
“The evil out there is frightening. So thankful no one was harmed or damage done to the church. May our Lord touch the heart of the person who did this,” one user wrote.
“Gods got the next move. Jesus is alive and doing mighty things. Prayers for that man and also for the church. Onward Christian Soldiers,” another user wrote.
Locke said he was shocked to see the burned Bibles, adding that the suspect was “very meticulous” and called the act a “rebellious statement.”
“It was strange because he had his blinkers on, and he scotched the wheels and everything,” Locke said.
“He was very meticulous, so he had to be very courageous to do what he did.”
“We’ve had people do things to our building, we’ve been vandalized a number of times, hence why we have to have security, but never 200 Bibles being burned. That’s a pretty rebellious statement towards the church.”
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said they are unsure whether the fire was aimed at the church or not.
The sheriff’s office stated:
“To uphold the integrity of the ongoing investigation, other specific details cannot be provided at this time. However, we assure the community that further updates will be shared at the appropriate juncture.”
Individuals with additional information are being encouraged to call the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office at 615-444-1459.
