Mainstream media outlets, including CNN and NBC News, began referring to Christians as “Easter worshippers” in a veiled attack as their most sacred day approached this weekend.
The reference came in response to a tragic accident in South Africa, where 45 people in a bus plunged off a cliff and were killed in the nation’s Limpopo province on Thursday.
The victims were headin’ to an Easter conference before the tragic accident occurred.
There was only one survivor.
However, social media users slammed the network for using the term “Easter worshippers” rather than Christians.
The CNN headline read: “Bus carrying Easter worshippers falls off cliff killing 45 people in South Africa.”
Other mainstream outlets, including People Magazine and NBC News, used the same headlines.
Red Eagle Politics responded to the headlines on X, writing:
“They’re doing this again. We are Christians, not ‘Easter worshippers.'”
“We don’t worship ‘Easter,’ we worship Christ.”
They're doing this again.

We are Christians, not "Easter worshippers"
We don't worship "Easter", we worship Christ. https://t.co/TGgTUbzxE0
The term was previously used in 2019 when Islamic extremists murdered dozens of Christians during Easter celebrations in Sri Lanka.
Former President Barack Obama also used the term “Easter Worshippers” in response to the attack.
“The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka,” Obama said.
The term was also used by other media outlets and elected officials, including Hilary Clinton.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich responded to the use of the bizarre phrase.
“How do President Obama and Secretary Clinton both come up with Easter worshippers in their tweets about the murders in Sri Lanka?”
“To have both of them use the same term the same day is strange.”
“Is Easter Worshipper the left’s new way to avoid the word Christian? Pathetic.”
