Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg defended his use of taxpayer-funded private jets because fighting climate change is “one of the biggest things I’ll be remembered for.”
As The Daily Fetched reported on Monday, Buttigieg is being investigated by a U.S. government watchdog for the flights he took on government airplanes.
Buttigieg has taken at least 18 flights on private jets, reports say.
While Americans deal with delayed flights and cancelations because of his incompetence, Buttigieg can bypass all that by using the taxpayer’s hard-earned money.
“Everyday Americans face flight [cancellations] and long wait times because Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has completely mismanaged air travel,” APT executive director Caitlin Sutherland told Fox News Digital.
“Yet, he gets to avoid all that by taking taxpayer-funded private jets to destinations with readily available commercial airline options,” she added.
“And for someone so holier-than-thou on reducing emissions, Buttigieg sure doesn’t seem to mind the pollution caused by his literal jet-setting,” Sutherland continued.
“This is hypocrisy at its finest, and these troubling expenses to taxpayers must come under immediate scrutiny,” Sutherland said.
“Glad this will be reviewed independently so misleading narratives can be put to rest,” Buttigieg wrote on Twitter after news broke the watchdog will investigate his flights.
“Bottom line: I mostly fly on commercial flights, in economy class. And when I do use our agency’s aircraft, it’s usually a situation where doing so saves taxpayer money.”
Pete Buttigieg defended his use of private jets, arguing climate change is “not nonsense.”
“Dealing with climate change is one of the biggest things that people like me and people like him will be remembered for after we’re gone,” Buttigieg said on CNN Tuesday morning.
Buttigieg said it is ok to use taxpayers’ money to fly private because he’s using “a government aircraft that is assigned to the FAA” to help fight climate change.
