Talk show host and comedian Bill Maher said during HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” that he will do everything he can to ensure the former president Donald Trump does not take back the White House.
“What I have decided to do is not preemptively give up my nervous system to Donald Trump like I did last time, or maybe the last two times,” Maher said.
“If he wins, he wins. I’ll do everything I can to make sure that doesn’t happen, but none of us have much influence.”
“The country is polarized. It’s like a prison yard — you’re either one team or the other,” he added.
“Everybody says they want to be in the middle, but really they just go to their corners,” Maher said, according to Variety.
“So either Trump will win or he won’t. And when he becomes president, either he’ll blow up the world or put me in Guantanamo Bay or whatever, but I just cannot worry about it constantly,” he added.
Meanwhile, Trump is gaining massive momentum in the polls, mostly notably with minorities who previously supported Joe Biden.
In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump blasted Maher:
“Bill Maher is the worst! He never got it, and never will. Bad ratings, a big fail on CNN shot, major case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME. Not worth the watch!”
As Fox News noted:
“Maher has been a prominent anti-Trump voice since before Trump won the 2016 election, criticizing him at every turn. Maher has been critical of radical leftism, wokeness and censorship in the Democratic Party, but he’s not about to convert to the right. Maher also quipped that if Trump goes on to beat President Biden, he will “blow up the world or put me in Guantanamo Bay or whatever.”
The interview also delved into Maher’s new media venture, a podcast network based on the format of his popular “Club Random” podcast. Maher told the outlet, “The style of my podcast has notable differences from other ones, and we wanted to replicate that a bit.”
Recently, Maher pushed Biden to drop Vice President Kamala Harris as his running mate and instead pick former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
Maher argued that Haley has no future in the Republican Party, suggesting she join Biden instead.
“I know it’s crazy to think that she could run with Biden, but that’s my dream, a unity ticket,” Maher said.
“And then he would, I think, definitely win.”
