This year, more Americans are no longer financially able to celebrate Thanksgiving with a traditional Turkey feast; instead, many are opting for fast food due to soaring inflation.
Citing a Casino.org survey, the New York Post noted:
“Amid ongoing inflation, it’s no surprise that finances are a factor in the rise of a fast food Thanksgiving,” adding that “16 percent of respondents admitted that saving money was the primary motivator for ditching the traditional turkey in favor of a meal at McDonald’s or somewhere similar.”
According to a recent report from the American Farm Bureau Federation, the media’s claim that Thanksgiving prices are declining has been overblown, given they are just slightly lower than 2022’s “historically high prices.”
“A classic Thanksgiving feast for ten, costing $61.17 total, rings in at about $6.12 less per person, the organization reported,” noted the Post.
“That’s still 25 percent higher than the cost of the same meal in 2019 — an increase many Americans simply won’t be able to absorb long term.”
Another factor affecting Thanksgiving is that many don’t have the time to cook a traditional meal.
“A considerable 21% of respondents cited that factor, while an additional 20% of those polled proclaimed they don’t have enough time to fix a feast for family and friends,” noted the Post.
Senior vice president and industry adviser in the Food and Foodservice markets at Circana, David Portalatin, said the spike in fast food could also mean many are eating it on top of their Thanksgiving meal.
“People may use fast food on Thanksgiving for a convenient breakfast,” he told the Post.
Of course, despite the cold, hard facts, the Biden administration is continuing to gaslight the public.
“This Thanksgiving, we have a lot to be thankful for,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a Monday press briefing.
“While inflation caused by the pandemic and Russia’s war continues to be challenging, we have seen important progress.”
However, AFBF data shows that Thanksgiving prices have increased 30% since 2020.
The Business Insider noted since prices were at a historic high last year, Thanksgiving dinners at home are still 25% higher compared to 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the AFBF.
The traditional meal was priced at $46.90 during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Monday, The Republican National Committee issued a statement that drew attention to the AFBF’s finding of a 25% increase in the traditional Thanksgiving meal since 2019.
The RNC also noted it was “the second-most expensive Thanksgiving in the survey’s 38-year history.”
