An attorney with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a far-left organization that lists conservatives alongside extremist hate groups, has been charged with domestic terrorism after rioting with Antifa in Atlanta.
Attorney Thomas Webb Jurgens, 28, was among the 23 Antifa protesters charged with domestic terrorism for rioting and allegedly hurling Molotov cocktails and fireworks at a future Atlanta police training facility on Monday, according to The New York Post.
In what Atlanta Police Chief Schierbaum described as a “coordinated attack,” protesters threw Molotov cocktails, fireworks, bricks, and rocks at police. The 35 “violent agitators” were nabbed after attacking the $90 million police training facility.
“This was a very violent attack, very violent attack,” Schierbaum said.
“This wasn’t about a public safety training center. This was about anarchy… and we are addressing that quickly,” Schierbaum added.
Some left-wing rioters even attempted to blind police officers by shining green lasers at their eyes, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said.
Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp called the riot an act of “domestic terrorism.”
“As I’ve said before, domestic terrorism will NOT be tolerated in this state,” Kemp said.
“We will not rest until those who use violence and intimidation for an extremist end are brought to full justice.”
The news comes two months after Antifa riots erupted across Atlanta over the killing of gunman Manuel Esteban, also known as “Tortuguita,” in Antifa’s ‘autonomous zone,’ the media was initially touting it as a “largely peaceful protest.”
As The Daily Fetched reported, the riots began when protesters began attacking police cruisers and breaking windows.
Three businesses were damaged after their windows were smashed, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said at the time.
Some of the people arrested at the time were “already been involved in other criminal activity and are involved in a manner to deter the building of the public safety training center,” Schierbaum said.
“My message is simple to those who seek to continue this type of criminal behavior,” Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said during the news conference.
“We will find you, and we will arrest you and you will be held accountable.”
