As Monday’s Jury selection began in New York City for former President Donald Trump’s trial on charges stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation, legal analyst Gregg Jarrett accused Bragg of applying a double standard.
The trial on Monday is the first of Trump’s election year.
During a detailed analysis aired on Fox News, Jarrett highlighted parallels between this case and the lack of prosecution of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, noting her campaign’s involvement in the Steele Dossier.
The case against the former president, which involves a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, which was part of a confidentiality agreement during the 2016 election campaign, was made by prosecutorial overreach and political motivations.
“I’ve never seen such a tangled, torturous prosecution that would be brought against no other person except Trump,” Jarrett said.
“It’s punitive, politically driven,” he added.
Bragg’s case pivots on transforming a business record misdemeanor” into thirty-four felony charges, which according to Jarrett, distorts legal norms.
“To do that he had to attach it to a supposed election law violation,” he said.
“It’s not a campaign donation,” Jarrett explained, echoing sentiments from the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice that initially found no wrongdoing in the payouts.

Jarrett and host Eric Shawn also discussed Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who was a key witness in the case.
Jarrett said he views Cohen as an unreliable witness prone to shifting his statements.
“Cohen, who was never much of a lawyer, is good at only one thing, lying prodigiously… He recanted what he stated in his sworn plea deal,” Jarrett said.

Last year, Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree relating to the payments.
Trump sought to leverage his appearance in court to benefit his campaign, releasing a video of Truth Social where he described the prosecution’s intent to silence him as election interference.
“They will try to take away my freedom because I will never let them take away your freedoms,” Trump said.
“They will try to silence me because I will never let them silence you.”
“They want you silent, and I’m the only one who can save this nation because you know they’re not coming after me, they’re coming after you.”
“When I walk into that courtroom, I know I will have the love of 200 million Americans behind me, and I will be FIGHTING for the FREEDOM of 325 MILLION AMERICANS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
