Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated a full-blown investigation into Media Matters following reports of “potential fraudulent activity” related to its articles targeting Elon Musk’s X/Twitter.
The leftist media watchdog group is facing a full probe for “potential fraudulent activity,” the Texas Tribune reports.
Last week, X/Twitter CEO Elon Musk claimed the group manipulated data on the social media platform.
The Daily Fetched reported that the Tesla CEO accused Media Matters of undermining freedom of speech and deceiving advertisers.
In a statement attached to a post on X, Musk said:
“This week, Media Matters for America posted a story that completely misrepresented the real user experience on X in another attempt to undermine freedom of speech and mislead advertisers.”
Media Matters published a report accusing X/Twitter of displaying advertisements next to “white nationalist hashtags” in an apparent effort to undermine and smear Musk’s company.
However, Musk argued the watchdog group grossly misrepresented the user experience on X/Twitter and misled advertisers.
“The split second court opens on Monday, X Corp will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company,” Musk said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Media Matters’ misrepresentation led to a mass exodus of advertisers, including big names like IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, and Paramount.
Musk vowed to launch a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against the leftwing watchdog.
X accuses Media Matters of manipulating the public and advertisers by curating its timeline to “misinform advertisers about the placement of their posts.”
As Breitbart reported, X alleges that of the 5.5 billion ad impressions served on the platform on the day Media Matters released its report accusing the platform of displaying ads next to “pro-Nazi” content, just 50 total ad impressions were displayed next to the content cherrypicked by the nonprofit.
Texas Attorney General’s office’s investigation comes amid concerns over public deception by radical leftist organizations such as Media Matters.
The investigation will be conducted under the Texas Business Organizations Code and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
“Under the Texas Business Organizations Code and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, the OAG will vigorously enforce against nonprofits who commit fraudulent acts in or affecting the state of Texas,” said the Texas Attorney General’s office.
Musk hopes to uncover the truth behind the Media Matters report, saying, “the discovery and depositions will be glorious to behold.”
