Elon Musk has promised that his company, X Corp, will initiate a “thermonuclear lawsuit” against the George Soros-backed Media Matters for America.
The Tesla CEO accuses Media Matters of undermining freedom of speech and deceiving advertisers.
In a statement attached to a post on X, Musk said:
“This week, Media Matters for America posted a story that completely misrepresented the real user experience on X in another attempt to undermine freedom of speech and mislead advertisers.”
The news comes amid tension between Musk and the Anti-Defamation League.
In the document titled “Stand with X to protect free speech,” Media Matters reported manipulated public perception and advertisers by creating an alternate account on X.
Media Matters then curated content that intentionally misrepresented the platform’s user experience.
The document also accuses Media Matters of forcing an unusually high number of ads being served to the dummy account, which ultimately misled advertisers about the real frequency of ad placements.
Media Matters founder David Brock, stated in 2004 that he created the organization to counter right-leaning bias in media.

Media Matters recently published articles listing companies pulling ads from X and critiques of ads being placed beside content associated with white nationalism.
X Corp vowed to uphold public rights to free expression, regardless of impact on company profits.

“X Corp will be filing a lawsuit against Media Matters and those who attacked social media platform X, Elon Musk said on Saturday in a post on the social media platform, soon after major U.S. companies paused their advertisements on his social media site.
Media watchdog Media Matters earlier this week said it found that corporate advertisements by IBM, Apple, Oracle and Comcast’s Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content.”
“The split second court opens on Monday, X Corp will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company,” Musk said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
