Sen. Tom Cotton responded to the New York gas stove ban, emphasizing that the left’s push to ban gas stoves was not a “right-wing conspiracy” after all.
“New York is banning gas stoves. Just like the Biden Administration tried to do before they got caught,” the senator said, adding, “So much for a right-wing conspiracy!”
Earlier this week, New York moved to ban the use of natural gas in new constructions via the state’s $229 billion state budget deal.
The Wall Street Journal reported, “One of the legislation’s most noticeable effects would be an end to gas stoves in new homes, along with other gas-powered appliances such as water heaters, furnaces, and clothes dryers.”
Last week, a spokeswoman for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s (D) office, Katy Zielinski, reassured environmental activists saying the law would “not have any loopholes that will undermine the intent of this measure.”
“There will not be any option for municipalities to opt out,” she added.
Hochul’s office is still trying to iron out the details:
“We are looking at reliability issues still, meaning if there is a proposal to build a new building after 2025, but there is a lack of electric capacity in that region, how will we handle that?” Zielinski said, adding that they “don’t want to build new buildings if the local grid does not have the energy to be able to power them.”
Former Rep. Lee Zeldin said the New York gas stove ban proposal was a “terrible idea.”
“The Democrats enthusiastically pummeling New York into the ground are about to pass a statewide ban of gas hookups on new construction. Such a terrible idea! Kathy Hochul and her cohorts are fast-tracking the downward spiral of a once greatest state,” he said.
The gas stove ban comes months after the Biden administration signaled its intentions for the proposal. However, it was met with backlash, resulting in a walk back.
As The Daily Fetched reported earlier this year, Joe Biden’s climate czar Ali Zaidi privately met with a co-group pushing gas stove bans. Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI)
On March 17, 2022, Zaidi met Jules Kortenhorst, Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) CEO at the time; John Coequyt, RMI’s government affairs director; and Sarah Ladislaw, RMI’s former managing director and U.S. program leader, according to visitor logs.
The three officials have pushed for net-zero, various climate policies, and abolishing fossil fuels.
“This meeting was about adding to President Biden’s historic record of bringing more manufacturing jobs back to America and lowering energy costs, not a debunked conspiracy theory,” White House spokesperson Abdullah Hasan told Fox News.
“While the cynics try to serve up a story about Zaidi without sizzle or steak, he is working overtime to deliver substance — good jobs, cost savings, and a stronger American energy sector than ever before.”
Meanwhile, regulators in the San Francisco Bay Area have recently voted to eliminate natural gas-powered furnaces and water heaters for 2027.
