Elon Musk responded to a tweet depicting a fungal infection treating its insect victims as “zombies,” saying it’s what those infected by the “woke mind virus” actually look like.
A new controversial show recently aired on HBO, “The Last of Us,” which tells the story of a fungus called Cordyceps which takes over billions of people’s brains.
The show is based a PlayStation video game released in 2013.
In the show, humans who contract the fungus become puppets and seek to spread the virus to others.
While the show is fiction, Cordyceps is an actual disease that only exists in insects.
The Twitter account Massimo shared an image of a fly infected by Cordyceps. Its eye was missing, and fungi grew from its otherwise empty head.
The account wrote, “A brilliantly gross image of a fly infected by the endoparasitoid fungus cordyceps.”
Massimo added, “The fungus keeps the host alive as long as possible and directs the animal to climb to a prominent exposed perch where spores are released.”
Musk commented on the tweet comparing the fly liberal activists infected with the “woke mind virus.”
“That’s what people who have the woke mind virus look like to me,” Musk wrote.
The photo was initially taken in 2017 by macro photographer Faiz Bustamante.
Newsweek covered the image at the time and compared it to “The Last of Us”
“No, that isn’t a leaked image from the upcoming sequel to ‘The Last of Us,’ the outlet reported. “That’s a real close-up of what was left of a fly’s head after it was infected with the Cordyceps fungus.”
“Cordyceps is as creepy as it looks — maybe even more so,” Newsweek added. “Different species of Cordyceps prefer different hosts, but generally, they invade the bodies of insects, especially ants, causing them to act in a way some call zombie-like.”
Musk’s comparison between Cordyceps and “woke” ideologies garnered lots of feedback.
Earlier this year, Musk vowed to defeat the WMV a day after tweeting that his pronouns were “prosecute/Fauci.”
“The woke mind virus is either defeated or nothing else matters,” he tweeted.
Journalist Luke Rudkowski responded to Musk’s tweet:
“We are either in a mass awakening event or total collapse of society.”
Musk replied, saying, “Exactly.”
