Eric Adams’ Solution to Illegal Immigration Crisis: ‘Cut Police Budgets’

New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams announced he would be making significant cuts to the NYPD and Education Department budgets to deal with the illegal immigration crisis in the city.

Under Adams’ new budget cuts, there will be a complete freeze on police hiring, dropping the number of NYPD officers to below 30,000.

The city’s Education Department will also be affected, with the budget slashed by more than $1 billion over the next two years.

“No city should be left to handle a national humanitarian crisis largely on its own, and without the significant and timely support we need from Washington, D.C. Today’s budget will be only the beginning,” Adams said.

Eric Adams said the budget cuts are a solution to deal with the illegal immigration crisis, adding that “In all my time in government, this is probably one of the most painful exercises I’ve gone through.”

The Daily Mail reported that the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and Queens Public Library also would need to eliminate Sunday service due to the budget cut.

“Without sufficient funding, we cannot sustain our current levels of service, and any further cuts to the Libraries’ budgets will, unfortunately, result in deeper service impacts,” the libraries said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the NYPD budget cuts come in the wake of the city’s rise in felony and misdemeanor assaults and car thefts.

Moreover, the crime will no doubt be made worse by the city’s illegal immigration crisis.

“The budget cuts proposed today risk doing harm to the wellbeing of all New Yorkers, especially our most vulnerable,” City Comptroller Brad Lander said in a statement.

“City Hall should stop suggesting that asylum seekers are the reason for imposing severe cuts when they are only contributing to a portion of these budget gaps, much of which already existed,” he continued.

“Our administration has a legal and fiscal responsibility to come to the table, balance the budget, and make the tough decisions today to ensure a better tomorrow for New York City,” said First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright.

“We cannot ask New Yorkers to balance their checkbooks without city leaders doing the same. These tough but necessary decisions were made to protect the city’s fiscal future while continuing to deliver vital government services.”

“However, New York City should not carry this burden on its own. The federal and state government must play their part in delivering long-overdue support, funding, and resources,” Wright continued.

“By law, we’re required to balance our budget, and this November Financial Plan Update successfully does that with minimal disruptions to services,” said Chief of Staff Camille Joseph Varlack.

Earlier this year, Adams accused Joe Biden of destroying New York City with his migrant crisis.

“The city is being destroyed by the migrant crisis,” Adams said.

Adams also took a shot at New York City officials for not fighting hard enough to get federal resources to New York City.

“And none of my folks came to Washington, DC, to fight for the resources that are going to undermine every agency in our city,” Adams added.

More recently, Adams warned that illegal immigration is “devastating” the city and will hurt residents.

New York City, a sanctuary jurisdiction that refuses to cooperate with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, is now “at a breaking point,” Adams said.

More than 160,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in New York since the spring of 2022.

“We’re at the breaking point,” Adams said.

“There is no more room, over 160‑something thousand, and as I stated, we’re getting anywhere from 2,500 to 4,000 a week … this is so devastating for our city.”
