Justin Trudeau Announces $650 Million More in Military Aid to Ukraine

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced more military, economic, and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, amounting to $650 Million.

“We’re continuing to impose costs on Russia and ensuring that those responsible for this illegal, unjustifiable invasion do not benefit from it,” Trudeau said Friday during a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ottawa.

Zelenskyy also addressed Canada’s Parliament.

After flying to Ottawa late Thursday after meetings with Joe Biden, Zelenskyy spoke at the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday.

Trudeau said that Canada and Ukraine agreed to establish a working group with G7 partners to study the seizure and forfeiture of Russian assets.

Canada added 63 Russian individuals and entities to the country’s sanctions list; these included “those complicit in the kidnapping of children and the spreading of disinformation,” Trudeau said.

Canada’s pledge will include $650 million in new military aid to Ukraine over the next three years, Trudeau said.

Canada will provide Ukraine with the following:

50 armored vehicles, including armored medical evacuation vehicles, built in London, Ontario

Pilot and maintenance instructors for F-16 fighter jets

Support for Leopard 2 battle tank maintenance

35 drones with high-resolution cameras

Light vehicles and ammunition

The support will include a financial contribution to a U.K.-led consortium delivering air defense equipment to the country.

Canada’s support will continue into the 2024 fiscal year, Trudeau said.

As Brietbart reported:

Other assistance for nongovernmental organizations and Ukraine’s government will include measures to improve “cyber resilience,” rebuild local infrastructure, and assist farmers. Canada also plans to contribute funds for Ukraine’s national war memorial and money to increase the availability of mental health support at the appropriate time, he said.

“We stand here absolutely united in our defense of democracy and our condemnation of (Russian President) Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked, unjustified, and unconscionable invasion of Ukraine,” Trudeau said.

Earlier this month, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said the West must be prepared for a “long war in Ukraine,” adding that there is “no doubt” Ukraine will eventually join the American-led military alliance.

“Most wars last longer than expected when they first begin,” Stoltenberg said per France24.

“Therefore, we must prepare ourselves for a long war in Ukraine,” the NATO Chief said.

“We are all wishing for a quick peace,” the NATO Secretary General continued.

“But at the same time, we must recognize: if President Zelensky and the Ukrainians stop fighting, their country will no longer exist. If President Putin and Russia lay down their weapons, we will have peace.”

The Biden administration also recently requested Congress for a further $24 billion in aid to Ukraine.

This is on top of the $113 billion in American taxpayer dollars already committed to the country.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged $1 billion more for Ukraine, including $300 Million for the country’s law enforcement,

The money for Ukraine included the following:

$175 million in military assistance

$100 million for “longer-term military needs”

$206 million for humanitarian aid

$300 million to support “law enforcement”
