A California woman reportedly filed an off-screen abortion of her unborn baby and posted the video to TikTok.
The mother of one, identified only as Monica of Los Angeles, told Newsweek that her “hope would be that abortion becomes more normalized and seen as what it is—healthcare.”
The baby was nine weeks old, meaning it had all its essential body parts, including a beating heart, a brain, lungs, and kidneys.
Monica suggested that Planned Parenthood aided her in stopping that heartbeat forever, “smooth and quickly.”
The reason Monica gave for getting an abortion was that she is shacked up with her boyfriend and roommates, and “bringing another kid into this home is not ideal whatsoever.”
Monica reveals in the video that she uses the controversial drug, mifepristone, recommended by Biden’s Food and Drug Administration, and blocks progesterone, a hormone required for a pregnancy to continue.
Last week, a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the FDA had exceeded its authority in permitting mifepristone to be delivered by mail and given to women too far along in their pregnancies.
But according to USA Today, the ruling will not affect the availability of the drug.
The FDA-approved regimen for medication-based abortions entails “taking a pill at a healthcare provider’s office, clinic or hospital, before going home and taking the rest of the medication around 24 to 48 hours later,” Newsweek reported.
In the video, Monica confirms she followed the Biden FDA’s regimen, taking the pill at the clinic and then going home.
Medical abortion makes up 54% of all abortions executed in the United States, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
Monica complained of nausea, saying nausea “is the worst thing ever” as she moved through the process of getting rid of her unborn baby on TikTok.
“I definitely felt hesitant about documenting my abortion because I was so worried about the kind of response I would get,” Monica told Newsweek.
“It was my attempt to reach out to those who may feel alone or unsupported through such a vulnerable event and to show that there is nothing to hide when it comes to making a choice that is best for you.”
Monica said about killing her unborn child on social media, “I think it’s incredibly important for women to share stories like this because, in a big way, it helps to destigmatize abortion.”
