Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s refusal to back down from the EU’s demands for state censorship of “free speech” means the platform could be banned across Europe.
As The Daily Fetched reported on Sunday, senior EU officials expressed fury after Musk pulled Twitter out of the bloc’s online censorship project.
France’s Digital Minister Jean-Noel Barrot claimed the so-called “disinformation is one of the gravest threats weighing on our democracies,” pointing to Twitter as a harborer of such threats.
Barrot added, “Twitter if it repeatedly doesn’t follow our rules, will be banned from the EU.”
Barrot was referencing the EU’s voluntary rulebook for big tech companies, which will soon become law under the EU’s Digital Services Act, essentially forcing companies to comply with government narratives, or faced being banned from Europe like Twitter.
In May, European commissioner Thierry Breton said Twitter left the voluntary code of practice against the EU’s version of disinformation.
But due to the rule changes, “[b]eyond voluntary commitments, fighting disinformation will be legal obligation under [the Digital Services Act] as of August 25. Our teams will be ready for enforcement.”
One CEO responded to Breton’s tweet with a screenshot of a popular British sketch show scene where the Nazis realize they were the bad guys during World War II.

The real truth is that Breton and the Digital Services Act supporters hate freedom, especially freedom of speech.
While it’s unclear why Breton and other EU sociopaths believe it’s okay to control freedom of speech online, we know it is their job to work for the people who live in the EU, not against them.
Musk pulled Twitter out of the EU’s “Code of Practice,” stating he wanted to support free speech while insisting that Twitter would support the EU in its censorship program.
As Politico reported, Musk appears to be prioritizing his freedom of speech over leasing EU overlords.
EU Internal Market Commissar Thierry Breton confirmed on Twitter that the platform left the project.
Musk also pushed back against Ireland’s forthcoming hate speech laws earlier this month, calling it a “massive attack against freedom of speech.”
The new proposed legislation would allow Irish authorities to criminally convict people for “hate speech” offenses.
