A top House Democrat conceded that President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, did a “lot of really unlawful” things after the DOJ announced that it had named a U.S. attorney to investigate the matter.
“David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware, who had been nominated by Donald Trump, can make the decisions about what to charge, where to charge, and when to charge,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) told ABC’s “This Week.”
“And with the collapse of the plea agreement that he had apparently worked out with Hunter Biden, now he wants to be certain that he’s got the authority to go bring charges wherever he wants,” the Democrat added.
Raskin said Hunter Biden “did a lot of really unlawful and wrong things.”
Weiss was tapped to be the special counsel in the investigation last week.
“From my perspective, it is the rule of law and the justice system working itself out the way that it does and, obviously, it’s bumpy, and this side or that side doesn’t necessarily prefer this course of events,” Raskin said.
“But our job, I think, as political people is to allow the justice system to run its course,” he added.
After a plea deal was made Biden’s lawyers and prosecutors, it later fell apart.
Prosecutors wrote in court filings that they were at an impasse with his attorneys over any deal.
“I don’t know what factors went into the calculus to appoint [Weiss as special counsel]. Obviously, there had to be some public interest rationale for it. The material change in circumstance that I can discern is simply the collapse of the plea agreement,” Raskin said.
“But when that agreement appeared to evaporate, then I suppose they wanted to formalize that the U.S. attorney for Delaware had the authority that he needed in order to prosecute the case.
“And, certainly, there was political pressure being brought on it, which I don’t approve of myself. I think it’s not our job as politicians to be second-guessing and trying to micromanage.”
Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed the appointment of Weiss, calling it part of “corrupt behavior” by the Biden regime only seen in “juntas in third-world nations or early twentieth-century dictatorships in Europe.”
In the statement, Greene wrote:
“Today’s move by Merrick Garland to appoint David Weiss as Special Counsel to investigate (and in reality cover up) Hunter Biden’s criminal career is the latest action in a continuous pattern of corrupt behavior by Joe Biden and his regime.”
“This is a coverup, plain and simple. This appointment is designed to protect Joe Biden from his exposure to the serious and substantial investigation Republicans are conducting in Congress,” Greene wrote, adding that she believes Weiss won’t properly investigate Hunter Biden and, instead, create a “firewall to protect the Biden family from their crimes of influence peddling.”
Greene said, “[e]very subpoena, every record request, every transcribed interview, or any other effort in an impeachment inquiry will be blocked by this corrupt and unlawful Special Counsel under the guise of an ‘investigation.'”
Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Weiss’s previous involvement in the botched plea agreement raised red flags.
“This action by Biden’s DOJ cannot be used to obstruct congressional investigations or whitewash the Biden family corruption,” Mr. McCarthy wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“If Weiss negotiated the sweetheart deal that couldn’t get approved, how can he be trusted as a Special Counsel? House Republicans will continue to pursue the facts for the American people.”

It’s all a lie, we are done as a republic under this Democratic regime unless something changes dramaticcally.
