A woman from Texas who traveled to Washington D.C. with a loaded firearm and made threats against former President Donald Trump has been arrested by police in Washington D.C.
Christina Montoya was arrested after traveling to the nation’s capital.
The Secret Service was first made aware of the women threats before law enforcement was alerted, according to a statement from the D.C. Metropolitan Police.
“Through the detectives’ investigation, 41-year-old Christina Montoya of San Antonio, Texas, was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and threats against a former president,” police said in a statement.
According to investigators, the threats against Trump started on July 20.
Police located the woman’s vehicle and found a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol, a magazine, and a gun lock.
The incident comes just weeks after Trump’s near-miss assassination during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The fallout from the shooting has seen the Secret Service come under scrutiny due to massive security failures before and during the Pennsylvania rally.
The protective agency was made aware of would-be Trump assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks at least 90 minutes before the shooting but failed to do anything until he began shooting.
Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle ultimately resigned following intense calls for her removal.
Meanwhile, Trump has been urged to stop holding outdoor rallies in the wake of the shooting.
However, the former president announced plans to return to Butler for another rally in the near future.
“I WILL CONTINUE TO DO OUTDOOR RALLIES, AND SECRET SERVICE HAS AGREED TO SUBSTANTIALLY STEP UP THEIR OPERATION,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
“THEY ARE VERY CAPABLE OF DOING SO. NO ONE CAN EVER BE ALLOWED TO STOP OR IMPEDE FREE SPEECH OR GATHERING!!!”
