The singer initially ignored the protester during her performance.
Lavigne then introduced performer AP Dhillon, telling the crowd he is “the first-ever Punjabi act to perform at the JUNO” Awards.
The protester stood behind Lavigne with the words “SAVE THE GREEN BELT” scrawled on her back, referencing a development plan by the Ontario government.
Following the performance, the award show’s host, Marvel star Simu Liu, complimented Lavigne for “handling that topless lady like a champion,” Page Six reported.
The “Sk8r Boi” singer later accepted the TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award.
The singer later referred to the topless protester, saying, “Now nobody try anything this time. I’ll f**k a bitch up.”
