A “satanic” Halloween display in New Orleans has sparked protests after it depicted Satan holding a decapitated head of Jesus.
Members of the local community in Bucktown, part of the New Orleans Metropolitan area, are in uproar about the about the Halloween display of a bloodied Jesus decapitated on the cross in Vic Miorana’s front yard.
After receiving calls to take the display down, Miorana refused, saying, “It’s over the principal.”
“I have my rights, and I refuse to back down,” he said.
He continued:
“Religious churches and things scare people, they make you uncomfortable and they pull a different reaction.”
“But it’s nothing you don’t see in a scary movie, video games or a haunted house.”
Members of churches all over Louisiana responded to Miorana refusing to take down his display by protesting outside of his house.
New Orleans residents called the Halloween display of the bloodied Jesus prop “disrespectful.”
However, Miorana disagreed.
“This is just decorations for fun, its not real Jesus, these are foam props that I made. I’m sorry if this hurt anyone or if it caused anyone to feel sad,” said Miranda.
One of his neighbors sided with Miorana, saying people canjust drive past the neighborhood.
Others weren’t so sure.
“I feel it’s disrespectful to the people that believe in Jesus,” said one person.
“Is it protected under free speech? Yes, but does that make it right, that’s my real question,” they added.
“Would you do this with another religion because I don’t think you would,” they said.
Miorana said the viral post caused his girlfriend to receive so many threats about losing her job they ended up separating.
“My girlfriend of three years has been harassed by her and her family business, and due to that, she asked me to have this removed,” said Miranda.
As NOLA reported:
“Vic Miorana of Bucktown begins mapping out his Halloween decorations months in advance, spending thousands of dollars and countless hours carving tombstones, creating bloody organs and molding creepy masks.
This year’s work has already hit a nerve six weeks before the holiday. That’s because towering over his yard is a two-story display of a blood-stained Satan holding the severed head of Jesus above a crucifix where the rest of His bloodied body hangs.
For Miorana, the scene is an attempt to delve into the holiday’s scarier side. But the display has provoked outrage from some neighbors who say he has crossed the line from spooky to blasphemous.
Despite threats and complaints from nearby residents, Miorana said he would not remove the display.”
