Republican Senator Rand Paul praised Twitter CEO Elon Musk for standing up for free speech, predicting the Tesla owner will become a historical figure in the fight against draconian censorship.
Paul referred to Musk slamming the suppression of the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story as “election interference” in an interview with CNBC earlier this week.
“Thank God for someone who can still speak their mind and won’t take some guff off a journalist who tells him he can’t speak his mind,” Paul said.
“Somewhere along the way, something happened, and people began to think that only certain forms of speech were acceptable,” the Senator urged.
“Then along came Elon Musk,” Paul continued.
“The country, the Bill of Rights, frankly, all of us, are going to be very thankful that a guy with a lot of money bought a social media entity and allowed us to see the government colluding to limit speech,” Rand Paul added, referring to the singnificance of Elon Musk and his role int he fight for free speech.
“People need to get this right. Private companies can decide what they want to air; newspapers can, and television shows can. But what we cannot allow happening is the government to collude with private business and use them basically as their extension and their arm of censor,” Paul emphasized.
He added:
“Elon Musk exposed this only because he had 44 billion dollars to buy a company and expose their inner workings of collusion with government.”
Watch:
Despite Paul’s remarks, there are still questions about why Musk hired World Economic Forum member (WEF) Linda Yaccarino, who has championed excessive moderation on social media platforms and mask-wearing and lockdowns.
Earlier this month, Musk pushed back against Ireland’s forthcoming hate speech laws, calling it a “massive attack against freedom of speech.”
As the Daily Fetched reported, the new proposed legislation will grant Irish authorities the to criminally convict people for “hate speech” offenses, including possessing material that could “incite” hatred in others if disseminated.
