Top Indian TV actress Dr Priya died suddenly from a heart attack at just 35 years old while she was eight months pregnant.
Priya died while she was in hospital for a routine checkup on October 31.
The TV star suffered a ‘sudden’ cardiac arrest during the checkup.
However, doctors managed to save her baby, which now remains in the ICU at a private hospital, according to her co-star Kishor Satya.
He said of the passing of his co-star:
“Last night, while going to the hospital, the sight of sadness rained in my mind.”
“One more unexpected death in the Malayalam television sector. Dr. Priya died of cardiac arrest yesterday. She was 8 months pregnant. The baby is in ICU. There were no other health issues. Went to hospital for routine checkup yesterday. She suddenly had a cardiac arrest there. [sic]”
He added:
“[Dr Priya’s] mother who is crying unable to accept the death of her only daughter. The pain of husband Nanna as a loving partner with Priya without going anywhere for 6 months… Last night while going to the hospital, the sight of sadness rained in my mind. What will you say to comfort them…. Why did God show this cruelty to those innocent minds who are believers….”
Kishor went on to ask himself questions about the shocking news and how Dr Priya’s family would ‘recover from this collapse.’

She worked at the PRS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram in the southern state of Kerala. After hearing the heartbreaking news of her death, fans to the comment section on Kishor’s post to pay their condolences, with one user writing:
“Prayers for her parents and husband …the little one during this period . Our Lord strengthen them and make them overcome great loss.”
Another shared their own experience and said:
“Very sad incident. I also faced the same issue during delivery of Cardiac arrest due to PULMONERY EMBOLISM, which is a rare case. Its one out of 50,000 births. Very painful for the family. My condolences,” while one wrote: “Heartbreaking.”
Priya, who is a doctor by trade, was one of the popular actors in India.
According to local media, she worked at the PRS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, in the southern state of Kerala.
Dr Priya took a break from work while she was pregnant to spend more time with her family.
Her death marks the third in a long line of unexpected deaths among Indian TV figures.
On Monday, Indian TV star Renjusha Menon committed suicide in a flat she shared with her husband Manoj, a fellow actor.
Menon was known for her supporting roles in several TV shows and movies, including ‘City of God,’ ‘Marykkundoru Kunjaadu,’ ‘Bombay March’ and ‘Karyasthan.’
She was just 35 when she died.
Last month, Indian actor Aparna Nair also committed suicide in her flat at just 33 years old.
