The former director of strategic communications for Planned Parenthood committed suicide while being investigated by police for child porn possession, according to developing reports.
Abortion advocate Tim Yergeau, 36, who was the director at the Southern New England branch of Planned Parenthood, became the prime suspect in a police investigation in a child porn case before he committed suicide.
Yergeau took his own life just days after what appeared to be a botched attempt by police to take the Planned Parenthood director into custody.
During the initial botched raid, police found they had broken down the wrong person’s door, which turned out to be Yergeau’s neighbor, The Middle Town press reported.
New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson later confirmed the person who had committed suicide was the suspect in the child porn probe.
“The person who died was definitely the suspect in a child pornography investigation and the person who committed suicide,” Jacobson told the New Haven Register.
An internal affairs investigation was launched after police “obviously hit the wrong door.”
The investigation will also look to examine how Yergeau took his own life after the raid took place.
“Unfortunately, a mistake was made,” Jacobson said. “We feel for the woman and we’re going to do everything we can to make it right.”
“The investigation is part of holding my department accountable and transparent,” he added.
While Jacobson declined to confirm whether the Planned Parenthood director was the child porn probe suspect, the state Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner confirmed commited suicide on Tuesday.
The medical examiner also confirmed Yergeau died as a result of suicide.
Yergeau became Long Wharf Theatre’s marketing and communications director for Planned Parenthood in August 2022, according to the organization’s official website.
Yergeau’s Instagram also shows pictures of him at the job just weeks after he started at his position.
Yergeau also promoted leftist, and LGBTQ causes across his social media channels.
In one Instagram post, Yergeau posted a picture of Planned Parenthood buttons with rainbows plastered on them.
Another photo showed Yergeau wearing a shirt with a pro-abortion talking point, “Bans Off Our Bodies,” on it.
In December 2018, Yergeau posted, “Excited to announce that today I start a new job on the marketing/communications team at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. Excited to be working on issues I’m passionate about: healthcare access, reproductive and sexual health, diversity and inclusion, civic engagement, and voting rights.”
“We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn the developments of the last 24 hours,” a spokesperson for the theater said in an email to the outlet.
“Given the difficult news, it would be inappropriate to comment further,” they added.
During Yergeau’s time at Planned Parenthood, he was part of an artmaking and letter-writing workshop, writing 247 ‘love letters’ to abortion.
The love notes may become an installation at the Whitney Avenue office or one of PPSNE’s 14 Connecticut Satellite locations, and Rhode Island.
Yergeau told Hartford Business that he’d spent his entire career working in the arts, advocating arts, and fundraising.
“I try to be as authentic as possible — I think everyone is constantly over-stimulated, over-sold, over-worked — so I try to be upfront and honest, to discover areas of agreement, and be straightforward with my values,” Yergeau told the outlet.
Jacobson confirmed there are two open investigations into the matter, and police are not releasing any information bout what was found in Yergeau’s apartment until they are certain no one else was involved.
