Nancy Pelosi’s words from 2019 are about to boomerang back at her as the impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden gets underway.
This week, McCarthy officially announced the House’s intention to investigate Biden, which no doubt made Pelosi regret her decision to forgo a House impeachment vote against Trump.
Now McCarthy is doing the same thing Pelosi and her Democratic counterparts did in 2019, a beautiful display of the former Hosue Speaker getting her just deserts.
Chief political correspondent of the Washington Examiner, Byron York, encapsulated the undoing of the Democrats in a social media post: “On October 15, 2019, three weeks after unilaterally declaring an impeachment inquiry, Speaker Pelosi, backed by Adam Schiff, insisted there was no requirement to hold an authorizing vote and she would not hold an authorizing vote.”
Now we are seeing Democrats arguing about the unfairness of opening the impeachment inquiry without a formal House vote.
However, it was Pelosi who set the precedent in 2019 through her own actions.
McCarthy is now simply following suit, but with a ton of evidence against Biden, unlike with Trump.
Regardless of Pelosi’s villainous tactics, she could never have anticipated this.
The marker for when the Democrats should start panicking is when Ice President Kamala Harris assumes the presidential role in the event of an actual impeachment against Biden.
Of course, if Trump is also re-elected, the Democrats’ destruction will be almost set in stone.
In another tweet by York, he says, “Pelosi waited 5 weeks after unilaterally beginning inquiry. Purpose was, of course, political. She wanted to build support among her own vulnerable members and also wanted to pick up a few Republicans to call inquiry bipartisan. (Hoped to get Hurd, Katko, and Fitzpatrick. Got none.)”
In 2019, Pelosi stated, “We’re not here to call bluffs. We’re here to find the truth, to uphold the Constitution of the United States … This is not a game for us. This is deadly serious, and we’re on a path that is getting us to a path to truth and timetable that respects our Constitution.”
And so is McCarthy now.
Pelosi’s words have come back to haunt her, and the impeachment inquiry is only the beginning.
