New York City Mayor Eric Adams begged the Mexican government to halt the flow of migrants into his city during a trip to the country on Wednesday.
Adams and other Democrat leaders warned the migrant crisis could ruin New York, despite some still wishing for the city to maintain its “sanctuary” status.
The NYC Mayor’s trip was aimed at discouraging migrants from traveling to New York City.
Over the past few months, hundreds of illegal aliens have flooded the city after Texas Governor Greg Abbott shipped the migrants to “sanctuary cities.”
New York is now struggling to accommodate nearly 10,000 migrants.

Adams visited the Basilica de Guadalupe, where many migrants pray before taking the journey to the US.
Mayor Eric Adams pleaded with several Mexican government officials to halt the flow of migrants and discourage asylum seekers from taking the journey to the United States.
“I say to those who are pursuing the American Dream, it should not turn into a nightmare,” Adams said.
The Mayor also met with Sister Magda, who runs a shelter for migrant women and children. Also, he spoke with the CEO of AT&T Mexico and described how unlimited immigration is destroying US cities.
“You’re not going to be a big box chain store and ignore a large population of men in general, and specifically, they’re coming to your cities,” Adams said.
“And don’t think it’s going to impact shoplifting, masked people that can be involved in stealing or doing something that’s anti-social behavior,” Adams added.
“We must come up with a humane approach that can resolve some of the underlying issues,” Adams added.
Adams recently accused Joe Biden of destroying New York City with his migrant crisis.
“The city is being destroyed by the migrant crisis,” Adams said last month.
He also blasted New York City officials for not fighting hard enough to get federal resources to New York City.
The Mayor’s next stop is expected to visit Ecuador, Panama, and Columbia.
Over 113,000 undocumented migrants have flooded New York after crossing the southern border since last year.
The migrant crisis is so bad that around 100 hotels have been turned into shelters in New York, including The Paul Hotel, The Paramount Hotel, and the Roosevelt, which houses 3,000.
Adams is planning to spend an extra $1 billion of taxpayers’ money to house migrants for the next three years, as the city’s public services are facing massive cuts to pay for it.
“The migrant crisis has evolved into a financial boondoggle, with quietly extended contracts fattening the pockets of a few at the taxpayer’s expense,” said Democratic Queens Councilman Robert Holden.
According to the city planner, it will cost $ 4.7 billion this year alone to house migrants – equal to the budget for the city’s entire sanitation, fire, and parks departments.
The US Department of Homeland Security recently dispatched a small team to New York City to determine how the federal government should respond.
So far, the government has promised the city $140 million to help, but the city has yet to receive any of that money.
Recently, a 95-year-old Korean War veteran was ordered to leave his Staten Island nursing home in New York City to make way for illegal migrants that are currently overwhelming the city.
Frank Tammaro was given just six weeks to get out of the Island Shores Senior Residence after being sold to the city in August so they could house illegal migrants.
