New York City mayor Eric Adams has called for illegal immigrants to be moved “throughout the entire country” as his city buckles under the massive influx of border crossers flooding into
Manhattan.
“Would it be more helpful if it was the federal government directing where migrants are moved to throughout the United States instead of you as New York City’s mayor trying to figure out where you can send them within your state?” Margaret Brennan asked Adams on “Face The Nation.”
“Yes, it would,” Adams replied.
“We have 108,000 cities, villages, towns, if everyone takes a small portion of that, and if it’s coordinated at the border, to ensure that those who are coming here to this country, in a lawful manner, is actually moved throughout the entire country is not a burden on one city,” Adams added.
Following the expiration of Title 42, the Trump-era rule that enabled the prompt removal of illegal immigrants to save and guard public health ended, New York has been flooded with border crossers.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent thousands of migrants to sanctuary cities such as New York City, which many Democrats argue is a political move.
Earlier this month, Adams was trying to revoke his city’s “Sanctuary City” status amid the massive influx of illegal immigrants.
As The Daily Fetched reported:
Last week, Mayor Eric Adams issued an executive order suspending the city’s right-to-shelter rules, which require the city to locate private rooms for asylum seekers rapidly.
“No asylum seeking-family that has sought shelter from us over the last year has slept on the street thanks to our colossal efforts, but without more support from our federal and state partners, we are concerned the worst may be yet to come,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“With over 130 emergency sites and eight humanitarian relief centers already opened, we have reached our limit, and this last week we had to resort to temporarily housing recent arrivals in gyms. In an effort to mitigate those risks and find room within our shelter system, the city has temporarily suspended the policy surrounding timing for placements in shelters. This is not a decision taken lightly, and we will make every effort to get asylum seekers into shelter as quickly as possible as we have done since day one.”
Last week, Adams responded to outraged parents fed up with illegal aliens living in their children’s public school gyms.
As we reported, New York began converting public school gyms into migrant shelters to house hundreds of border crossers and illegal aliens while school children attend classes.
However, parents were not happy with Adams’s decision and began protesting outside one of the schools where the migrants were being housed.
Migrants are being housed and provided with free food in PS 188 in Coney Island and P.S. 17 in Williamsburg, where recess is cut for students.
“Our children deserve to have the academics … how are they going to do that when our kids are having to worry about who they are around? We’re going to get hurt,” one angry parent said.
